Do I worry too much, or do others worry too little?...

I was thinking a lot about what I would write in this post but I came to the conclusion that - I worry too much.

Why does he think he is such a stud?

Why do some people (who are real losers) believe they are Gods gift to mankind?

Trying to avoid every mistake can be the biggest mistake

Well every now and then I read The Daily Motivator, and I must admit a lot of what Ralph Morston says makes so much sense. I will be honest - I barely read The Daily Motivator every day but whenever I do, I find it insightful.

To get your dose of Ralph Morstons wisdom, please visit www.greatday.com

To get a dose of my litte wisdom, please visit www.note2self-things2remember.blogspot.com

Go with it

Life can be great when you simply go with it. Instead of excessive worrying or endless analyzing, just make your choice and then move forward with it.

Your first instinct is often your best one, because it comes from your authentic self. When you start taking a lot of other conflicting opinions and perspectives into account, your options quickly shrink.

Certainly it pays to think things through, and to consider the advice of others. Just don't let it all dilute the passion that can energize your life.

Trying to make the perfect decision can often lead to no decision at all. Trying to avoid every mistake can be the biggest mistake, because you also avoid getting anything done.

Though you can plan for the future, you cannot precisely predict it. So go ahead with the best you have, and you'll be completely able to deal with whatever may happen.

Even though it has no guarantees, this day is an incredible opportunity. So step confidently, enthusiastically forward with a smile on your face and go with it.

Extinct is forever...

Well we ended up talking about The Body Shop the other day and I happened to remember the only 2 things I own from there. Both were a gift given to me by my cousin from HK when she came visiting yearsssssssss ago. I don't remember how long its been but its been very long a minimum of 7 years already if not more. Anyway my cousin said that she thought this would be a perfect gift for me - because I was so much into the environment and natural stuff and all of that.

Anyway these 2 things are a wallet and a pencil box. They are both purplish and have images of animals on them. Its sort of a set. But I always liked the wallet more than the pencil case. Maybe because it was more useful.

Anyway both of these have a line on them - EXTINCT IS FOREVER.

Now I don't remember these items everyday anymore because I don't use them. They are kept somewhere in a never opened drawer in my cupboard and therefore I don't contemplate on the line anymore. Which of course is really sad because the line is great. Extinct is really forever. And we somehow don't realise how hard hitting that is. We never look at things so harshly but we should. Whenever we look at extinction all we think about is the Dodo bird and maybe the whales, sharks and tiger.

Well while its true that tigers, sharks, etc face the danger of extinction, currently, there are approximately 1000-1100 species of birds and mammals that are facing extinction. If invertebrates and plants are included, the total number of species in imminent danger is around 20,000. If we look at the past - It is estimated that about 125 species of birds and 60 species of mammals have become extinct since 1600.

The rate of extinction of species has risen dramatically and we should really sit back and think about why and what we can do about it. We cannot deny that humans are of major cause of species extinctions. We take over their natural surrounding and build what we need to build. I am not against progress and all of that but we never really sit and see LONG TERM IMPACT of our actions. We look maybe 2 - 3 years down the line but not a 100 - 200 years from now. Which is when the lack of certain plants/animals will come back to haunt us. Not only are we destroying natural environments but are also polluting our surrounding horribly. This pollution is only affecting us but affecting all the species around too.

They say that in the jungles of the Amazon and Congo Basins, there are plants that might hold the cure to cancer. Herbal remedies for our fatal illness maybe locked somewhere in these rich forests and what are we doing? Boosting the lumber industry in such regions. Its about time we realised the true cost of our actions.

I gotta stop

Well remember my post which spoke about how I keep repeating stuff. Well apparently I am the only one. And even if other people have their own 'line' its not like my case cause in my case I have way too many lines.
The situation is so bad that even my boss asked me the other day - 'Tell me something Deepali - How Many Times Do You Say "You Know". I think this is way toooo much. Even now while typing I keep feeling this urge to type 'well' and somehow I put it down and realise I have already used it 2 times in the post and any more would be too much.
Well the situation is so bad cause EVERYONE is teasing me about this. Well we all have our quirks right - so this is mine or atleast I think I can say that. And I said 'well' again...aghhhhh

Some of my lines are -
It Depends
You Know
You gotta be kiddin me
Oh come on
Theek hai
Chalta hai
Achaaa tu theher
That is correct
I'll be honest
Supposedly
I assume so - or I would assume so

Apologies

if the last few posts of mine are badly written. I feel the flow sucks but sorry with no computer to do this at leisure, I am just putting down things as they come to mind...

Ganpati is here again

Well that's right - 11 days of frenzied pujas and devotion is back this year. And every year around this time I keep marveling at how wonderful it is that Mumbai celebrates this festival with so much revelry, forgetting daily routines and the aches and pains they bring. Celebrating the arrival of their favourite god. Celebrating for they believe a new day has come. Celebrating because they think that things will change... Devotion of this sort baffles me - but who says I have to understand?
Anyway by day 11 I am usually worrying about the sea - the creatures in it. Its the same with all festivals it seems. Can there really be any salvation for people who pollute the air and water? How can people show their happiness and feel joy at the cost of nature?
I see so many women every now and then, in the trains throw things out into the river just before Bandra station - its okay to pray and chant some things you don't understand - and believe that this will take you to heaven but its not okay to believe that you will go to hell for dirtying the rivers and the seas? Affect the life of marine organisms...
Well I agree that people need a release - they need their Ganpatis and their Lakshmis. They need to forget everything but prayer for few days. They need to dance and sing. But it doesn't need to happen like this.

Anyway I can go on and on. But since I am talking about Ganpati - what saddens me this year to see all these pandals with beautiful ganesh idols inside is that their entrances have pictures of politicians. I mean what the hell why does politics even have to enter a festival and ruin it?
Also like last year, this year too I will most probably not go to any pandal to 'maatha teko'. I don't see what bowing in front of an idol can do for me - if I don't believe it will do anything at all. And like last year my mom is going to be pissed and my sis is going to be a real pain about it. All I would say is bigggg deal. What makes these 11 days more special than others? Just cause we choose them to be? That doesn't make any spiritual sense now. Shouldn't all 365 days be special is the question I always ask - to which I get no satisfactory answer everrrrrr....

Independence Day

[Ya I know 15th August was 10 days ago but home comp's not working, so couldn't post]

Well its just Independence Day and not 'happy independence day' or 'another independence day', because what's added before or after depends on a lot of things. Of course I don't wish to get into that. Why the nick then? Well every time Independence Day comes around I feel its like a birthday. The one day everyone contemplates something about their life. Either the previous year or the last few years or their whole life or the coming year or coming whole life. That's but natural, seeing the sort of day it is. But somehow everytime Independence Day comes around, I actually think about India, its 'freedom', the struggles of its people in the past and the present, etc etc.

Of course not much changes every year - I end up thinking of corrupt politicians, scams, over population, illiteracy, schemes that never seem to work, poverty, unemployment, farmers who commit suicide, slum lords, and a whole list of everything that's wrong with this country - to that list, this year I have added floods and bomb blasts too.
I don't believe this is the India our forefathers envisioned. I don't think this is the India anyone wanted or even wants. Sure we are shining, sure we are the rising star, sure we get compared to China but what are the ground realities? How many Indians are happy? How many Indians are free? Is the India of 2006, the India freedom fighters died for? Are we today worthy of those people dreams, aspirations, hope, death?

The biggest tragedy of it all is that we are part of a county that has such a rich heritage. Such a deep history. A culture that could surpass many, and we do nothing with that. Our past is something we see no value in. Neither do we appreciate the past nor do we think enough about it. Take a small example of yoga. How many of us here are gaga over yoga? Yoga is getting a real hype now only because its gone to the west and become so famous amongst the westerners. We are a totally useless bunch...

The British might have taken a lot away from us, but like the irony that life sometimes like to throw in our face - our strongest weapon in today's economic warfare is something the British bought to us and gave us, whether we wanted it or not - the English language. Haha I cant wait to see China in the next 5 - 8 years, when majority of their 'contributing' population will be english speaking. Where will India be? Watching on TV how members in the Lok Sabha throw things on one another, not able to watch TV because some dude things that everything should be censored, shitting bricks cause we will be importing not only wheat but other food grains too...

We could also have an India that is actually flourishing. An India that thriving. An India that the rest of the world is jealous of. What do we need to get there? I think there is only one thing needed - accountability in our political system. You don't do your job well, your outta here. If we don't have strong, charismatic, visionary leaders, we wont get anywhere.

On the note of freedom - What is freedom anyway? I don't seem to be able to figure. In my mind one has freedom only when one can live life on his/her own terms. How many of us can do that? Very few I think. Sometimes it's not possible to be free, but unfortunately most of us believe that we don't need such freedom. Everything else must come before self. I don't believe in this philosophy. The 'Individual' must come before everything else. By the self coming first here I don't mean politicians filling their pockets. It's all about knowing who you are and standing up for who you are. Fighting for what you believe in. Being open minded enough to take the world in but also being tolerant enough to realise that the world doesn't revolve around you. Buckling down under pressure because other people say something or believe something is not cool. Its not something anyone should accept. Actually nothing should just be accepted. Everything must be realised. Haha, I can already imagine my mom and aunts cringing... we have no future I tell you, not unless we start thinking differently.

Anyway I'm going on a totally different tangent here - will write something more on 'independence day' sometime in the future. Maybe next year....

Why why why why

Firstly I was totally surprised that no one asked me what my nick meant. Usually there are atleast a couple of people who comment / answer very strange nicks.
Anyway the 'why why why why' is because I have realised and now days reminded very often that there are certain phases or and actions that I keep repeating - examples - 'you have got to be kidding me', 'the funda is', 'apparently', etc etc.
Now I would think there is nothing wrong with something like this, cause everyone has their own style but now it seems to me that most people dont do such things and therefore when I do, its funny for a bunch of them.
The hilarious things though is this too happens in phases. So today and for the next 2 weeks I will keep saying 'oh come on' and then after 2 weeks it will be 'thats such BS' and then after 2 weeks it will be 'there is NO way'....
Ah well 'the funda is' that 'apparently' 'there is no way' to term this as only my nakhras so 'come on' stop all this BS and let me live in peace...

We all need to do our own thing...

When will I have the luxury?...

Ya ya so I want too many luxuries in my life - so what? Everyone does.

Well anyway this is a different sort of luxury I am talking about - not about being able to fly to another country whenever I felt like it (I think I mention this the most often).

The reason this thought came to mind was because I was in a cab going to college to sign some forms and was going through Marine Drive. It was suchhhhhhhhh a beautiful day. Cloudy but no rain and bright but not hot. The sea of course looked brown but still the effects of the light made it look wonderful. Everything looked so nice. And as I sat looking out the window, taking in as much as I could, I wished I could just get off and sit there the whole day. Go home only when I got tried or bored - neither of which would have happened. But obviously I could not do what I so badly wanted to - not only because of my form signing but more importantly because I had to get to work. If I were in college I could still have skipped class, but you cant bunk work right. That's the luxury I am talking about. I wish I had the luxury of sitting at Marine Drive for a whole day if I desired it...sitting home to read a novel and drink hot chai on a rainy day...getting on a flight and flying off to some place because I wanted to travel lol sorry couldn't resist....

Where is the peace...

Where is it? I don't see it...
I can't find it...
Do I need it?
Will I be satisfied once I have found it?
But how do I find it? I don't see it...

Well a friend of mine did some soul searching and got quite a bit out of it. I too decided to do some soul searching, but haven't sat down and thought about anything yet...I ask myself if i need to, and I keep getting an answer that says 'yes', when I ask myself why I need to, no real answer comes back. I am content with my life... I have more than what most people would need. Yet there is always this urge for more. And I ask myself - Is there really something like total satisfaction? I don't want this when I am dying. I was peace, peace of mind, and I want it now. Am I in a state of unrest? No. I can go each day without feeling much agitation but I don't feel any peace either...
Is this odd? I don't know.
Am I making sense? I don't know and I don't care
Can I stop asking questions I don't have answers to? I WISH

What I hate more than the Bomb Blasts are the sick people who actually make up hoaxes about more blasts...

What kind of sick pleasure can any one get not only by bringing parts of the city to a stand still, creating panic, getting agencies that would be doing other work involved in something thats just a 'prank' for fun. The worse is the emotions involved. The blasts werent something small. People have to live with that fear for a long time...

The people of this city really need to give up their 'chalta hai' attitude

The original nick was 'The people of this city really need to give up their 'chalta hai' attitude and their great spirit' and so lots of people went on and on about how I could be so silly, and how I had got it all wrong etc etc etc.
Well I didn't get it all wrong - everyone has their opinions and this is what I truly believe. I am not saying don't stand out in the middle of the night distributing water and biscuits to stranger, I am not saying don't stand on roads and help divert traffic cause there aren't enough cops, I am not saying don't rush to the disaster site and help people there. Damn I am so PROUD to be a Mumbaikar because only the people of Mumbai are like this. I was getting home that night around 11:30 in my friends car and I was so overwhelmed looking at common people out on the roads, doing things they didn't have to, just so that someone else from their city was a little more comfortable.
Nor am I saying that everyone should sit at home all day and not do things that they would have/need to. I understand that people sometimes don't have options. They have to do certain things and they have to do them a certain way.
Nor am I saying that common folk should get to the roads, start riots, exploit the situation - even if its for a good cause. No I don't want that.
What I am talking about though is that things SHOULD NOT be back to normal. Bomb blasts are not normal incidents - and therefore this city should not be back to normal. We cant just say 'oh whats happened has happened, what can you do, it was destiny, blah blah blah'. We have to stand up and say enough is enough. We have to stand up and say we want no more of this. I too agree that you cant prevent things like this from happening but there are lots of things that can be done. How about spending more resources on intelligence gathering? How about holding people responsible for shoddy crisis management? How about catching these terrorists and hanging them? How about more security measure on our railways? How about questioning our politicians who only talk big, especially about peace processes? How about putting our foot down and telling Pakistan we will make their life hell if they don't do something about the terrorist organisations? How about teaching kids more about tolerance? How about taking international help (since everyone seems to want to fight terrorism) to actually try and figure what we can do to change the situation in Kashmir? ....
What we can actually do is limitless but the tragedy is that we do nothing. We go back to our normal life. We praise ourselves for bouncing back. We pat ourselves on the back for being so great - greater than any other city would have been in this situation ...
Thats all we do...
Don't you think we should give up our 'chalta hai hota hai' attitude? Don't you think that our 'great spirit' needs to go beyond just helping out during the crisis

Bloggers Park - Mumbai Mirror

Mumbai Mirror has a section called Bloggers Park where they take and issue and pick a few blog entries - usually give 2-3 lines and the blog address. Its very cool since blogs are so big now. Actually goes to show how important blogs have become. I wouldnt be surprised if this feature moved from a page 30 in the physical paper to a page 5 or so. Only problem with people reading the paper offline is that they have to be savvy enough and enthu enough to actually get online and read more. Its an interesting development none the less.
Todays topic was on the Mumbai Blasts (this blog got featured there). Would have provided the link (it was up for a couple of days) but it seems dynamic and therefore the page keeps moving to a new URL everyday.

Bomb Blasts happening in Mumbai...please take care

Very scary - 7 bomb blasts in Mumbai. All blasts happened in trains - 1st class mens compartments - I guess the terrorists decided that to be gentlemen and not hurt women.
Anyway this is totally ridiculous. 7 blasts - just goes to show how vulnerable the people of this city are. The worse part about this blast will be that, Mumbaikars will become survivors and saviors and after 2 days life will be back to normal - and everyone will sing praises about how great the spirit of Mumbai is and nothing will be done to stop this happening again and again and again. I really wish the people of this city would stop accepting these incidents as 'things that just happen' or things that you can predict and prevent. I am not saying things could/should have been stopped and the police and other authorities have not done a good enough job (I don't know about this yet - stuck in office - no TV). But really we should have a better crisis management plan, we should have better intelligence, we should have harsher punishments, we should demand more accountability...

Its about time we start waking up and realising we don't have to exist the way we always have...

Back in town - I wish life was a vacation...

For those of you who don't know, I was out of town - Phuket and Bangkok (from 29th June to 9th July). I had SUCHHHHHHHHH a blast...it was awsome. I wish everday could be a holiday like that. Do nothing other than chill all day. Have fun with friends and relatives. Dance and shout. Sleep late and wake up late. Mannnn thats the life. I now want a VERY early retirement. Oh man 5 star luxury, with a sea view and great weather. Fantastic. I am now counting down the days to my next vacation, which will happen only after a year *sob sob*.

I'm leaving on an aeroplane - unfortunately for you, I'll be back again....

Well yup...flying out today...doesnt feel like it though. I guess on my way to the airport I'll be really excited. Maybe the last few days have been so 'normal' that it doesnt feel like I am going to be flying out...well lets see...have been looking forward to a vacation for so long...of course this isn't a vacation vacation...more like a stressful trip - just out of the country in an exotic location hehe...
Well it should be fun, and I plan to chill out quite a bit...meet new people...unfortunately I will also be making a fool of myself - both at the time of dancing and giving my speech :( but whatever...I HAVE TO enjoy myself cause when I get back...my next vacation will be a long way away and my need for a vacation would have increased 10x

Nisha would be proud of me...

Yup...I got nail polish on my toes and will get some nail polish on my hands too, within the next 3 hrs...and I will have polish on my nails for the next whole week....

I hate it...

Someone please explain to me why Mittal so badly wanted Arcelor...

Vivek - To produce 3 times more steal then the competition.
Bims - same reason microsoft would want to buy apple
Mahesh (K not M) - Mittal wanted Arcelor for two reasons...
one...to become the biggest steel producing company in the world..
two...his ambition later was followed with his ego...

Whats with all the lightning?

Well 46 people have died and many more injured due to lightning strikes this year. Never before have I heard of more than 3 deaths due to this reason. I am sure lots of people are worried about lightning striking them this year.
Of course there has been more lightning this year than most years...
So my question is, what happens when you start to fear what you consider divine?
How does this question pop up here you wonder?
Well I consider lightning and thunder divine...they are totally MIND BLOWING. Nothing gives me a bigger thrill than watching lightning and hearing the thunder that follows...its music to the soul...but I will be honest...this year even I am a little weary of lightning. I still think it totally rocks...but I wont go out of my way this year to try and catch a glimpse of some.

Flying in 9 days...

Well nope I am not doing a count down...but I wasnt fast enough in changing my nick, so Trig (who says he keep a track of all things bolt - or all things that use to be bolt hehe) said 'whats going on, I see 10 yesterday, I see 10 today, whats going on?' so I changed it and made it 9...and that was yesterday. Its 9 today too when it should be 8 hehe...but trig wasnt online today ;)
Anyway I am excited and worried like I said before but it seems so long ago since I sat in a plane (which was just one year ago - which means I am getting too use to the idea of travelling). Of course last year when I sat in the plane I hadn't watched any episode of NatGeo Investigates (hehe they usually investigate lots of place crashes) so I will be a little nervous this time around. Doesnt help that I am flying in the monsoons or with a new airline (Thai - we usually fly Cathay - of course we have always ended up in only HK and Manila).
Anyway I am already looking forward to next years trip - which would be at least HK if no where else. Love the city. Maybe I can check out Dubai.
I am soooooooooooo grateful that I have family scattered all over :D

Flying in 10 days...

Yup, flying out on the 28th...10 days away...both excited and nervous...slightly depressed too because my HK plan got cancelled *sob sob*, but bleh I'm still glad to be going on vacation. My new worry though - neither are the dances ready, nor is the speech I have to give. Hopefully by the time its my turn to give the speech, I will know a lot of people there and they will think I'm real nice and sweet, and so they wont make fun of me when I have to give the speech. Lets see.
Anyway the timing of the trip is bad - Got a new boss and things are getting ummm interesting at work. But I do need a break - clear my head out, plan ahead. Meet new people. Do new things - like dancing in front of 100+ people aghhhh...Take lots of snaps yayyyyy - this is my fav. Try and have a good time :)

Back to college?...

I'm thinking of doing MCom this year, to get my 16th year of education (incase I do plan to go abroad in the future). Lets see if I can get back into my previous college. Getting in might not be too tough, seeing how they give prefrence to students on certain criteria - and I was in a good handful of societies and clubs and really did do some work for them. Lets see what happens...I will know by the 22nd.

Rakhi Sawant - you're a dumbass...

Ya she is...I havent seen anyone more idiotic than her.
I mean who else is so retarded to dance near naked in 'hot and steamy' music videos viewed by thousands of people and then come out and say something like 'I am an Indian woman - kissing like that is not right a peck on the cheek is okay'.
For crying out loud if you want to make an issue of a guy grabbing you and kissing you, thats what you should make an issue about - if you are not a willing participant, its wrong and thats about it. That's all anyway should say. Not idiot things like 'I am an India woman'. Ridiculous.
Man even publicity stunts have no class these days.

Gooooo Justine Henin Hardenne...You will always be a superstar Federer - even if you never win the French Open...

Well what do you know, Justine Henin Hardenne (pronounced as Justine en en ar den) won the French Open Womens Trophy this year too. Havent watched much of her expect at the last French Open. She moves real fast, which is something I hate in players who arent my favourites hehe, but since I have no favourite in the womens draw, its good fun. The one thing that you realise about Justine, that you dont of most players is how her head doesnt move much and honestly since I am so new to tennis, I dont know the significance of head position (maybe its got somehting to do with balance or follow through), but its so obvious in Justines game and really catches the eye when they show replays of her shots. Well good on her for winning the trophy for the 3rd time. I think it goes to prove that once you set your mind to it, you can achieve whatever you desire. She not only fully recovered from her viral disease but also goes and wins grand slams. Its just fantastic. Way to go Justine.

Well the obvious happened - Federer lost to Nadal (dont like him much - nearly always wins when he is playing Federer). Ofcourse clay courts arent Federers strengths but I do wish he would have won. Of couse he needs to change his game. I think he should try new things, move into the net, try and hit the baselines more often, try a double handed back hand etc. I dont know enough about the technicalities of the game to make comments but he really needs to do new things. Maybe he should, just to amuse himself. He wins so easily most of the time that too. He doesnt have to do fancy things. He doesnt have to stay on court for 4 - 5 hours often. It sort of hampers him when he needs all these skills the most. Anyway I dont see Federer wining the French Open anytime soon. Maybe some day he will get 'lucky'....I'll be hoping for that day...

A new day has come...

Turning over a new leaf....life isnt always what you make of it...but it doesnt have to be totally miserable. There has to be a point when you put your foot down and say you have had enough. That point has come for me. No more bitching...no more sobbing...no more complaining...
Its time to use my energies in better things. To be more positive. To get better results. Its about time I stopped wasting my time and my life. Its time I stopped blaming everything else other than myself. I will now take responsibility of my actions....

2:26....6:06 on 6-6-06

Well I couldnt think of anything to put down so I put down the time which was 2:26 p.m.

And then I realised that today is 6-6-06 so I thought I'd put that down but didnt want to change 2:26. Ahhhhh the trouble we all have letting go....we should learn to let go....you get better things in life sometimes. And then I thought of why not 6:06 too...crazy day AND time...

Well and since today morning some people have been telling me about Omen and showing crossed fingers and all of that and I didnt quite get it...I thought it was just because the day was so coincidental but just a while ago I realised that 666 is the number of the devil...yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I know ...I'm slow....but thats only at times...and I'm sure you will disagree...but whatever...

Anyway nothing really bad happened today...only good things in life from now on....

All this negativity

I dont want anymore of it...
Whats done is done...
For me its over...
What good does it do...
Need to learn to move on...
I will die trying but Im going to try like hell not to be negative anymore...
I have way too many good things in my life and its about time I start appreciating them. I had a nice big venting session and I do believe that a lot of 'venom' is out of my system. Maybe not directed in the correct way and at the correct people or for the correct reasons but I am done bitching. Life is too good to waste away being negative...and all the horrible 'vibes' all of this creates...I dont want any more of it. I want to be dedicated to my work. I dont want to make stupid excuses. I am done with that too. Its about time....

The Euro Mix

Of the song 'Tu Hi Meri Shab' is just toooooooooooo 'hot and happenin'.
Love the way it starts. Going to try and get the first 42 seconds in a loop. Lets see if I have any success. One thing is for sure...I'll end up listening to that A LOT...

Intelligent but not smart

Well I know someone who is intelligent (actually very) but not smart...most people think that being smart and intelligent are the same...but I disagree and very strongly...the 2 are very different and its not about being book smart v/s street smart. Its more about having knowledge but not enough wisdom. Its about seeing things but not through them. Its about realising but not accepting. Its about knowing better but not doing better. Its about knowing how bad the darkness is but not removing the blindfold that covers your eyes. I feel sorry for this person because this person is intelligent enough to be greater than great but just isnt smart enough to get there...

The rains are going to be here soon :'(...

I hate the rains...
Leave aide all that crap about romantic...leave aside all the garam chai and pakoras (i never seem to have the either...atleast not great garam chai)...leave aside the greenery....
Think about the muck....think about being drenched...think about the horrid auto ride because of the oh so very very bad road....think about feeling cold to the bone...think about worrying about keeping your things dry....about your clothes not drying...about running to shut all windows as soon as a shower starts...wet curtains...wet floors...wet stairs...if your unlucky broken bones...also in recent times worrying about the floods...the lack or lateness of trains...the worry about no electricity...the problem of traveling...of spending money on taxis...of wet shoes and socks...of wet seats because some stupid ppl keep their windsheeters on forgeting they are dripping and that people will get into the rick/train/cab after them...the worms...the DULL DEPRESSING days...the longing to be home...the longing to breath fresh air...
Nothing nice about the rains as you can see....

Additions-
The heavier bags because of carrying umbrellas...the even heavier bags because of wet umbrellas. Getting to work/school/college etc and then trying to find a place to keep you umbrella/sheeter to dry and not being successful. The depressing days...the dark clouds...

The only things that TOTALLY ROCKS about the monsoons is the LIGHTENING and the THUNDER...which is totally spoilt by the rains. Cant watch any cause you cant stand out in the rain, cant hear much because the raindrops make a lot of noise. Cant really take pics/videos cause camera isnt water proof...

I hate the rains...

Why is it that only the medical students are taking part?

Talking about the protest against reservation for backward classes in higher education and our premier institutions. Do we really want 50% reservations in our top colleges or for that even in higher institutions? Is it worth giving seats to people from backward classes (I believe it should be based on economics and not caste in the first place) and bring down the level of not only graduating students (and therefore the institution) but also have people who might not be competent enough and thus bring down the over all functioning of small economies all over, over a long period of time?
What I believe is that having these seats in our colleges doesnt makes sense. If there should be reservation, it should be at our school levels (accommodation is a big problem - we might end up having lots of children who cant afford schooling because there are no seat.
What should also be done is to give blackward classes more vocation training so that they can stand on their own feet. Give them better loan schemes. Financial aid to help them start their own small business.

Im so sick and tired of vote bank politics.

Oh god...everytime he says 'I can't'...I just die a little....

I'm talking about none other than Hritik Roshan in the new Hide and Seek ad. Man the way he says 'I can't' is just too hot. A lot of people find him yuck, but after seeing the promos for Krissh, I realised that I missed watching him on screen for a long time. In regards to his new hairstyle - he looks better in shorter hair. Though his hair on its own looks really good. I wonder what kind of styling hes doing.
Well make as much fun of me as you like but I will admit it openly - I'm a huge fan of Hritik Roshan and he looks hot.

Cant wait for the Da Vinci Code..or for that matter even Krrish

Well I'm not going to talk about the whole controversy surrounding the Da Vinci Code. All I'm going to say is that I'm WAITING for the movie to release soon. I read the Da Vinci Code and enjoyed it (except for the end - all of Dan Browns books end so horribly). I remember what a huge fan I was of Leonardo Da Vinci, when I learnt of him in my 'cultural history' class. He was a GENIUS.
Also cant wait for Krrish...or Krish or Kkrish ...or how ever it is spelt. Havent seen Hritik Roshan in suchhhhhhhh a long time. Of course he is soooooooooooo unbelievable in the 'Hide and Seek' ad...

A tribute to Jackie Cochran...

On May 18, 1953, Jackie Cochran became the first woman to break the sound barrier. She was flying a Sabrejet F-86. She was also the first woman to land and take off from an aircraft carrier, the first woman to pilot a bomber across the North Atlantic, and the first pilot to make a blind (instrumental) landing. She still holds more distance and speed records than any pilot living or dead, man or woman.
Source - todays TOI.

She was orphaned at a young age and grew up in poverty. She was not attracted to aviation from the start. Her dream was to start her own cosmetic company. She got her flying license only because she believed that it would help her sell her products all across the country.

Now thats a super achiever. And one for woman power too...

Love Guru...not the radio types...

Surprisingly I have had a number of friends over the past few years asking me for advice on their 'love life' issues. I mean jeez I would obviously be the worse person to ask right? Because I dont believe in such nonsense. But surprisingly I end up giving good advice. I guess its a matter of common sense and trying to figure out what people are thinking and how they are thinking what it is they are thinking. Of course I can't quantify how much any of my advice really did wonders but its good to feel all important and know that what your saying might really help someone and change the direction of their life hehe okay I not such a romanticized feeling but still its a lot of fun....all th plotting and planning and trying this and that.
Of course I have sat back and tried to figure why these few people have asked ME for help. And I end up feeling sorry for them. How tragic that they have to come to someone like me to get advice...hehe...jk....[I know at least one of them will be reading this for sure :P]
Naah I somehow end up giving good advice.

'Not the radio types' is because each and every channel seems to have some sort of show that revolves around these issues. And all those shows are too pathetic...

The guy thing...

Well no this isnt about the 'guy thing' you thought about...whatever that be.
This is about the 'guy gang(s)' . Whether it be work or anywhere else...ever noticed how guys definitely have their own gangs or groups? They might mingle with women and have mutliple 'groups' but every guys will be in a guy gang. And most of the time women are totally off limits to these groups and the discussions that happen in the groups. Even if the discussions are not "typical guy talk". Women too have their own gangs I am sure but its usually related to things other than work that are discussed - maybe kids, home, new nail polish, etc. But with men, they discuss work related stuff that is not shared with their female counterparts. Yes I am pissed for guys hanging out together and learning/knowing things (because other guys are disseminating this knowledge/new etc) that even women in the workplace (or otherwise) have the right to know. Sure life isnt fair, and sure people are not equal but is it then alright to discriminated some (on grounds of gender) because they are only part of the 'team' and not the group??? ....

I can't help it...I dont want to live in denial...

Some days you just feel like shit...you cant help it...you just feel horrible...either with or without reason. Well never really without reason but the reasons are not evident enough. I think you should embrace it and take something from it...otherwise those feelings are wasted...sure its not easy to be bright and optimistic when your down but at least at the end of the day you can tell yourself that you are doing something about it.
Well actually to be honest I dont know what prompted that line...I know...sounds lame..but I'm sitting here trying to remember and I cant...so I thought why not write some crap that will make some people go oooooooooooh ahhhhhhhh...

All politicians giving sops and making stupid promises should be banned...

I thought I'll try and not put anything about politics and politicians up - at least not for a while...but couldnt help it.
First its the 50% reservation in education institutes
Then its reservation in the private sector
Now its rice for Rs.2 per kg/ free colour televisions / free computers
No increase in fuel prices even the the price of crude oil has shot up
The list just goes on and on...Will there ever be an end to vote bank politics? I wish there was some kind of punishment for politicians doing such ridiculous non sense...I don't want politicians who go out and give away stuff to people (even those these might make life better for those 'lucky' people). I want politicians who do their jobs. I want politicians who are honest. I want politicians who are dedicated. Politicians who think for the better of the country. Not their pockets, not their parties, not their positions...Am I asking for too much? I dont think so.

Beautiful Cloudy Days...

Nothing beats cloudy days...except during the monsoons...of course I dont mind at all if I'm at home...but hate the rains if I have to get out. Anyway the last few days were cloudy and it was all so beautiful. Also beat the heat a little...cloudy days are better in summer than they are in winter...I also read in the news paper that it drizzled...dont know abt that...no one around me mentioned experiencing anything of the sort. Anyway the cloudy days are gone...so will my nick...Hope we have some more soon. Of course I hate that I cant enjoy them since Im not at home anymore. Usually at work and indoors at all hours of the day. If I were home I would have sat and read a book on the terrace. Soaked in the nice cooler weather and beautiful skyline. Taken in the fresh air and enjoyed.....none of that for me anymore :(

Hummmmmmmm the first mangoes of the year...

Well the king of fruits is here...at least for a while. At a mango 2 days ago...D E L I C I O U S....
Of course I'm picky when it comes to mangoes (yup just like everything else). Nothing by alphanso mangoes...they are ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Have decided not to binge on them...look like that will not be too tough. Already late into the season and also mom not buying too much. Plus this year I'm at work all day, so maybe I'll get a little mango on some nights...
P.S. - Cant believe the rain will be here soon again...

Why do you think you're immortal....

Not related to all the deaths happening all around...Though about this long ago....
We all feel we are immortal....I cant even imagine that I could die today....and to think of it, what would it take? Nothing - a speeding car, a slip onto the tracks, a fall that could break my neck, a bomb in the train, a maniac running around with a knife...so many things that do happen all the time could happen to me. There is no reason that they wont happen to me but yet I believe that they wont...atleast they wont today...crazy isnt it...especially when you know death is inevitable....

Politics everywhere...I just hate it...

I do really hate politics...not like Indian politics - i.e. governtment agencies etc. But actual 'politics'...what happens everywhere in all our lives at some time or the other. The worse part is politics is omnipresent...At work, in families, between friends, in politics (no I would never forget that there is politics in politics), in schools, colleges, in our lives, everywhere.....even inside us....

What the **** is wrong with the people of Gujarat...

It seems like all they want to do is riot...I cant seem to understand what has happened to the state. I would never have though of Gujarat to be the state that break out into riots everytime something happened. I'm not saying breaking down a 200 year old shrine is not big...but come on to start murdering people..thats down right ridiculous. The reason I wouldnt have picked Gurarat as such a state is because people there are interested in making money...real money...big money...the logic in my head behind this is long...so I wont get into that...
Maybe its that people in Mumbai are very indifferent. I dont know. I have said before that our chalta hai attitude is a draw back sometimes. Sometimes I think its good. I remember there being a similar order here to break down all shrines that have cropped up on pavements and roads because these were being used to store ammunition and narcotics. I dont think too many people went crazy when that happened here. Maybe its not that other people are toooooo emotional, maybe its that we are too detached...or maybe it is because we believe that we will always bounce back. So if the officials want to tear all of these down, let them and we will build new ones. Or maybe we (Mumbaikars) are smart and we know whats right. What the point of a temple/mosque that is used to hide guns and drugs. We rather not have such 'places of worship'...we can go put our Rs.2 and say our prayers elsewhere...

R.I.P P.M.

Never followed politics until 2 years ago - In my opinion Pramod Mahajan, came second after Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the BJP. I'm sure he will be missed. What would be interesting to see is what this vacuum will do in/for the BJP and its members.

Rahul Sharma is HOT...

Well not only does the guy look good...and not only is he talented but he plays the Santoor for crying out loud. And he makes it look so fantastic. And it sounds great too. Not like some boring pandit yeh and pandit woh...his music seems hip, new, fresh, and every other nice thing you want to say. Which is great because everything changes right. But whats a treasure should not be lost. Classical music is one such treasure. I'm not of the mindset that making it funky and new age is corrupting the 'art'...far from it (in my mind). Its keeping the art alive. How many young people who arent inspired by some old aged pandit will look at a guy like Rahul Sharma who seems dashing and young, ready to rule the world, and who plays this 'old musical instrument' in such a chic manner. Its keeping the instrument alive and therefore its keeping the music alive. No one will disagree that the Santoor sounds like only a Santoor and therefore whatever is added around it should not matter...because the sound of the Santoor is alive. We need more Rahul Sharmas in India.

I was a little surpirsed by lyrics in this song but its very interesting because then it becomes the common mans. I cant play the santoor and mix and fuse sounds and create music like that but I can always sing right. Lets see heard only one song of his yet. Plus its less boring too.

I do belive Rahul Sharma is the next big thing....

It's not fair...TOI shouldn't be allowed to play around with the paper like that...

Well the Times Of India does it again. They once again have changed the format of the paper. What I wish they would change is go back to their original size. Use to love it when the fonts was nice and big. Made reading more fun. Didnt have to hold the paper 5 inches from my face. Anyway the reason I am cribbing is because I was cribbing before when they added the Times International suppliment and what happened was the paper became huge because not only is there one main paper, there are like half a dozen suppliments (Mumbai Mirror and its suppliment included not that I ever read it, only want to add the 1/2 a dozen thats why - only love the Mumbai Mirror for its puzzles/quizzes page). But I was getting use to that format. Would carry the Times International with me on my way to work and read some part of the 'newspaper' at least. Now if I want to carry anything with me, I'm pulling out pages of the main paper - which sucks. So what I'm again stuck with is reading headlines only. Man I should start waking up earlier. And no I DO NOT CONSIDER BOMBAY TIMES a NEWSPAPER.

Children of a great god...

Was talking to a friend the other day who wanted to know what the opposite of 'children of a lesser god' would be...I said it should be 'children of a greater god'. After a little while he was like 'ya, your a child of a greater god'. Well I shouldn't lie, so I will agree. It does seem like I am a child of a greater god. Had everything easy in life. Have everything anyone would want. A great family, a good education, a fun job, cool friends, lotsss of opportunities (which I dont capitalize on), a fantastic house (at least I think so), and enough money (not mine - in the family) to live well off. Lot of people dont even have 1/10th of what I do. Sometimes I feel guilty about it, but I let it pass. It's a crime I know, or rather a sin, if you believe in such stuff....I only sit there and think well at least I know I'm better off what about people who have everything, even more than me and still are not satisfied, they are the real scum right? Of course I'm only trying to fool myself and it doesn't work because I know what it is that I'm trying to achieve. And its not that I appreciate everything I have all the time. I sit and complain and bitch and do everything that there is no need to. But if your hollow you just are...
I believe that if I did pray I would pray for the 'children of a lesser god'...but I never believed praying was enough. It never gets you anything. And I sit and feel more guilty because I know I have to do something...but still here I sit.......

Happy Birthday Nisha ...:D you just keep getting older :P ....

Like I promised Nisha...you are now in my blog too hehe...ya I'm going to dedicate a whole post so how nasty and silly you are...hehe ...it's not your birthday anymore right...but anyway birthday or not...honestly is honestly right :P
[For all those of you who are wondering - :D is a big smiled smiley and :p is a tongue sticking out smiley.]

Well the tradition of dedicating nicknames to people (mostly always on their birthday only) started over 2 years ago. My bolt gang started this funda. You dedicate your msn nick to the members whose birthday it is. And it would be considered a better if you said something about this person or to this person through your nick....ahhh the good old days. No one does it anymore :(

Well anyway back to Nisha...aka...our driver in Manila...aka the 'fool'...aka the funniest craziest woman with a million guys (supposedly) nuts about her...aka...the only person who can blackmail me or make me shut up instantly...aka the person who gets away being stupid by saying that its cause I banged the car door on her head.
Theek hai...we are bonded for life by the incident...you can go on and on about how your brain is damaged because of me...and I can remember the ACCIDENT whenever I want to feel guilty of anything.
Anyway I'm sure you're going to read this...since your so self-centric...haha...well all I have to say is I tried really hard to think of good things to say about you...but I cant seem to think of anything okay okay I know it has become an old standard dialogue but like I said...the truth is the truth...okay enough of my keedahgiri...I definitely and totally want to thank you (and key - who will get her own nick dedication and therefore blog entry when it's her birthday) for the wonderful time we have always had when we have been in Manila. This last trip was the best. I must say it was so much fun....never pulled anyones leg as much as I did yours...and the best part was that you are always a good sport. Now we have no inclination of going to Manila since you got married and left...I mean everyone knows you need a DRIVER in Manila hehe...

Have a great day, a great year and a great life....

Who would have believed it was possible...

I have been abroad a few times and have seen malls before the first brick of Crossroads - the first mall in Mumbai - was even laid. Never did I think would I see in this decade multiple malls that looked like malls of foreign countries. And I'm not the type of person who would go all the way to Malad to see InOrbit mall. But I did see the truth last month. Went to Andheri to catch a movie. Got tickets finally in Cinemax - in the Infinity mall. I was totally blown away. The place is so big and looks like an international mall - except for the crowd though. But still the place was huge, well lit, had big brands, a multiplex and food mall....fantastic. Of course I dont know who shops at places like these. I am assuming their food courts and expensive movie tickets cover up some major costs. Well the thing is more and more of these malls are just sprouting up all over Mumbai. Pretty crazy eh...

Strikes are a valid form of protest - but if they cause hassles for so many ppl - they should be re-considerened...

Well thank god the BEST strike is off. I understand that these people should get paid proper wages, but what about the inconvinience caused to common people. I had to pay Rs.50 everyday instead of my regular bus fair for Rs.10. The thing is that I can afford to pay 40 rupees more for a couple of days; a lot of people cannot. Sure enough private buses came into service the next day, but they aren't good enough substitutes.
As always, Mumbaikars showed their 'sab chalta hai' attitude. We shall take everything in our stride...and life went on nearly as normal as it always does.
I am of the belief that this attitude is a bad attitude. It's the reason Mumbai is not growing. It's the reason why nothing is changing - become better. It's the reason we have incompetent dumb asses as our leaders. It's the reason why we arent world class. Hopefully this will change soon....
We should stop hoping and start acting...so much for me practicing what I preach...

The coffee drinkers of Mumbai...

The coffee drinkers of Mumbai aren't coffee drinkers at all really...
Whether you check out a Bariasta, Cafe Coffee Day (better known as CCD) or a Mocha (though its not a real coffee shop - thatÂ’s how it originally started if I remember correctly), they are always crowded.
If you wonder why, its not because people here love their coffee...it is because these places are 'hang out joints'...You will rarely see someone walk into a Barista or CCD, and order something as a take out. Theyaren'tnÂ’t there because they want coffee...they are there because these cafes provide them a place where they can sit around/meet up with friends and hang out. Of course all of this is never free - everything has a price right. And what a price it is. A coffee that costs over Rs.30 is nothing but exploitation. And most of the time you end up buying something more than just a normal coffee. But at the end of the day its all about the cost v/s the benefits. Lots of people today have disposable incomes. They'd rather spend it at a cool cafe, drinking coffee looking cool, rather than sitting at a sea face etc eating sing channa. I wonder how Starbucks will do in India. Lets see when they finally set up shop here. One thing is for sure - they have a ready market. Only the demand is not for coffee but for hang out joints

Everything is toooo bloody expensive these days...

It's true...I speak nothing but the truth (stop laughing...it's true...I speak nothing but the truth...at most times...as much as I can...look life is tough, you gotta do what you gotta do...well EVERYTHING IS toooo bloodyyyy expensive...there thats the truth).
Went for a dinner - 12 people - paid 4000+ ...what the hell....a bloody dinner costed so much...where do people get the money to do stuff like this all the time? Restaurants are always full, shops are always full, people are travelling like crazy, everyone has a car...where is the money coming from? Anyway, I'm getting into a bad habit of going out too much too, end up drinking coffee uselessly, add caffine and sugar to my body...both of which are so bad...and end up filling my wallet with more cash sooner and sooner...either will stop going out so often or stop ordering stuff when I am out. And its so tough earning money man...work so hard and get some peanuts...thank god my parents are well off...or at least enough that I dont need to worry about money...and thank god they brought me up right so that I dont have 10,000 demands...Well all I can do is dream of making big bucks some day....unfortunately I'm not the kind who thinks of marrying a filthy rich guy...not that I could marry a filthy rich guy even if I wanted....but whatever...I want to earn my own big bucks...and when I have them, I wont be wasting them on dinners and clothes...dont know what I would do with all the money...maybe travel around the world...maybe fund a small school in some village...maybe some other social service...maybe get the best gadgets in the world....but *sob* where is the money...show me the moneyyyyy

Google Analytics rocks...

Yup it does...absolutely does...of course down side is that google gets all this data for free too...and the day they stop following their 'dont be evil' motto...we are all screwed...but still fantastic UI...wonder how much more has been added or substracted from urchin....never saw it so have no idea...also wonder what is going on now, with the other analytics tools...the good thing was that google could give limited accounts...i wonder what will truely happen when it gives more and more analytics accounts out to people....someone should definitely read their TOS/TC...so see how they can screw us later on....which they will...power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely...

It takes work...

Everything....everythingggg takes work...
Lots of people today dont seem to accept this or want to except this. Sure even I want everything easy. Who doesnt? My parents and grand parents would have wanted everything easy too but they knew at the same time that they would have to work hard to achieve something, work hard to get somewhere and they were ready for it and did it. Today somehow it seems like people (younger generations) want everything easy. Maybe its because they are brought up like that. Their parents worked real hard, made some good money, pampered their kids, and now the kids dont want to work hard cause they never really had to, and even just the idea of doing so is painful enough to not do anything at all.
Well the reality is that life sucks. You got to work hard cause there is no other way out. Everything takes an effort. Nothing just ever drops into your lap. If you dont have to work for money then you have to work at relationships or you have to work toward your health or looking good ...everything takes work...
What shouldnt be forgotten is that all thing you have to or need to work at should have a priority. Lets stop being lazy, lets stop being stupid, lets get things done, lets work and then sleep well at the end of the day....

They hang out because they can...

In regard to teenagers and even kids of today...I hardly remember going out with my friends...not even much in college and I was sitting there trying to figure out why it is that so many kids today go out so much. And the simple answer is because they can. All these kids have enough money. Some or the other kid in the group has a car and driver at disposal...parents too now days are so much more lenient. Was talking to some friends about kids today. Its crazy how we feel like the world has changed a ton, in just a few years. Its been 7 years since I left school and when I look back at my school life and at my cousins in school...there is a day and night difference.

Now Adwords is like a pencil without an eraser...

Posted by 'Isreal' on WMW in regard to adwords issue..what else... Well I miss the good old days of adwords - we could bid at 10 cents, we could make changes and see real results. There wasnt cut throat USELESS competition. Looking at adwords all I can think are 2 things - 1) Everything has loop holes, you just have to find them and exploit the 'opportunity' and 2) If you have deep pockets, you can get away with murder but if you dont have money, you have to work very hard to get what you want and worse to compete with people who have money.
The only thing is that over here, even if you know you have no eraser and work really hard not to make mistakes, your still not getting there because there is no opportunity to make anything better and you will NEED to make it better, because there is someone out there who will beat you, either by being better or by throwing money. And you can do nothing because there is no eraser...

I need a goal post

Was talking to a friend who mentioned that he has to figure out an action plan to get to his goals and I mentioned that I have no goals let alone action plans. So he said 'you need a goal post'. And its true. I have no focus, not ambition, no goal. It feels like such a waste because I know I could achieve anything I put my mind to but I put my mind to nothing...

Bare chappals...broken feet...

Well didnt have to walk bare foot too much but still an experience. Well those osho slippers were destined to not reach home intact I guess. Broke in the office. Got it fixed from a mochi and then the same strap snapped. Re-sent it and got it fixed again. Was scared of walking in them and had a feeling that same strap of the same chappal will break. Look at my bad luck - I'm walking super careful with that foot so as not to stretch the strap and my bus comes and I have to walk fast, and I am..but I'm being careful about the left chappal - This guy comes out of no where and steps on the chappal on my right foot, by mistake. The strap on that chappal breaks and now the right osho is totally useless. My trains there already so I just grab the broken osho and get on. In the train I stand on the broken osho thinking that the floor is toooo dirty to stand on and then I'm thinking how the hell am I going to walk. Finally as my station nears I decide I will walk bare foot. Now the wonderful thing is that I have caught a fast. So I actaully have to catch a slow to get to my stop. Started walking and realised it was no big deal. I actually enjoyed it cause it would be something I would have NEVER done, except in a desperate situation. Anyway the stations didnt seem to dirty and I wasnt disgusted. The real problem came when I walked out of the station. Walking bare foot on the road isnt fun. I jumped into a cab and went home (right to the door step). Feel bad for people who cant afford foot wear. Anyway the highlight of the day was that we had a meeting with outsiders and I had no shoes...hehe borrowed a colleagues sandle and sat for the meeting. So there I am...black jeans...orange kurti...WHITE shoes....

Was in Goa...doesnt feel like it though...

Yup yup, I went to go..for 3 days...left on Thursday night...by bus (thats a whole story in itself), reached there and had a hectic long tiring day. Next day too went in sessions and didnt see much of goa or the night life. Sunday was a free day and I'm happy with what little I got done that day. My train ride back also is a story in itself. Maybe I'll make new posts of each day at Goa or maybe edit this entry later (thought different entries would make me seem like a super bitch because thats what I'm going to do...bitch. See its relative right...if I make one post and bitch lots in it, everyone will go ...aww poor thing, her trip really should have been better...and no...oh man..this Deepali, all she does is complainnnn).
But still I'm grateful and happy that the trip happened. The 'doesnt feel like it though' is because I didnt even SEE the beach by day. Can you believe it? That too we were at Baga...but I didnt see the beach in day light *sob*. Spent 2 whole days in the conference room at the hotel...ya ya dont call me insane...I had no option. Didnt see any club. Didnt build any sand castles. Didnt play cricket...I can go on but will do save up for later....

Was black really that good?...I prefered Page 3

I really thought that Page 3 was a better movie. I think Black was just full of emotion, thats why it won. Also I didnt like Amitabh much in it. All he did was yell scream and act stupid. Sorry if you think hes really talented for his role in black, but I think it was useless. Also what was so great about Ranis performance? She was in the movie for all of what...30 mins? I'm not saying the movie was bad or anything. It was good and it spoke about an important issue and it brought out to the lay person what a deaf/blind persons life might be like (honestly I think this too could have been done better - not enough justice was done on this front) and for that the movie deserves credit....but best movie at all the awards? Most awards are like...ummm our politicians...

And the rich get richer...

The Supreme Court rubbished the High Court order of the Mill land case, and said that the owners have the right over all the built up land and the remaining land will be distributed equally for owner, open space, low cost housing. So now instead of having equal share, the open spaces and housing development have only 13.3% (instead of 33.3%)...and who benefits? The owners, builders and rich developers...the city is worse off because we have newer malls, expensive high rises, more stress on limited resources, more congestion, traffic jams, lesser greenery...its sad...will there ever be any balance in this city?

What will happen to this city?...there is a breaking point for everything...

Again I'm going to copy paste from a convo. I was having on the topic...it covers my thoughts on the issue...
naah nothing much..i really think this city has taken more than it could...its either going to explode or implode soon...not that thats not happening...its not happening on a big scale
i mean i was crossing to bandra...and there is this green patch right before the river....and to think that bbay was once huge masses of swamp land...its all gone...and gone with it is the world that use to be there..
and then we crossed the river...and it was dirty and stinky...unfortunately thats how everything has become in this city...and it should not be that way..
i mean they are now talking abt power cuts...in bbay...i would never have thoguht the day would come
Friend: but its only fair tht we pay the dues for ebing part of MH.....suffer cuts like every other city does
Me:well im not of the opinion tht bbay should be giving special privlages etc..but can we really afford it? i mean i understand there is a need to curb wastage etc...but come on...if your financial capital is going to be plagues with probs like power cuts..when and how are you going to progress? there has to be better solutions...
Well I love my city...I think its a great place, with great people (except the politicians and gangsters) with a great spirit. But I think our chalta hai attitude is what will pull us down one day. Everything cant be 'chalta hai' all the time. We need to stand up and say we have had enough. We need to do something for our city, for ourselves. Its not about how much taxes we pay to the centre and blah and blah and blah, but that everyone deserves to be better off in a city like Mumbai. A city with so much history, culture and finance. A city that is full of hard working people. A city where everyone wants to come to fulfil his dream. A city where we believe life is different, because there is nothing superfial about it, because there is nothing fake about its people and the amount they toil. If it means throwing out people, I dont mind. Let there be a threshold for those who can and cannot live in Mumbai. Let the govt. take a stand and say to hell with vote banks, I dont want more slums, more crime, more garbage in this city....tragedy is that no one has the balls...and therefore Mumbai will only perish...there is no other direction it can move other than downwards....makes me really sad...

What is this nonsense of creating special award categories to accomodate important people who do not win awards...

I'm talking about film awards in particular...
Don't think more has to be said...

I use to think Indian muslims were different...

All this useless protesting...that too in Mumbai...it makes me sad....I always believe that muslims in india or atleast the bigger indian cities thought and felt differently than those all over the world...that they were more tolerant and also more understanding....I guess not...
Must say...I hate protests like the one that just happened...what comes out of it? Luckily there were no problem as the situation didnt get very out of hand... but its a big risk everytime there is a huge mob...and what abt disrupting normal life? Have all your political agendas in Delhi and Kolkatta...let Mumbai be...

I cant believe traditional businesses fail to realise the potential of e-commerce...

Will write more on this later. Just going to copy paste a few lines on the topic, from a conversation I.

Me: im thinkning..what if everynoe did jump onto the internet....still only a very small number of small and medium size businesses would really find lots of success
He: ..........its not so
Me: i dont know..i feel thats the way it will always be...because if you put lots of ppl in one same area...and tell them to do the best to get to the top...only the strongest/smartest would manage...
He: thts true till certain extent. the biz models change
Me: in the offline world there are things that might still help businesses....the people to people contact...the online word does (As yet) provide localization benefits...
He: .......in India.......online-biz has to find its strong presence

More on this later...

SMS 'jessica' to 6388 (NDTV), and they will send a petition to the President...

I think it's sick that people get away with something as big and horrible as murder even, just because they have contacts or have money, or have power. Justice is just a word....and our justice system is a joke. What else can you make of cases that get resolved after decades? It good to have safegaurds for the common man in place, but these should function, and function properly.

Is Sania going the Bhupati way?...

All I hear is that she has cleared round 1...while playing doubles...whats happening to her singles games? She is bombing horribly...but I wonder if we expect too much out of her. I mean she IS young, sure she has started a lot later than some of her contemporaries but still she might have a great future ahead of her if we let her have it...I just hope that she concentrates on her Singles career more...

i think your so much better off and you think im so much better off...

Result of a conversation I was having...
Basically I am tormented in the sitauation/circumstances/life that I am in...and you are tormented in the ones you are...
Thats where my philosopy of misery comes from...since I am going to be miserable...and I know I am...because everyone is miserable in the lives they lead...I'd rather be miserable on my own terms right...

It works because people can relate...

Caught a little of 'Deal ya No deal' last evening, where this girl took nothing home, she was crying her guts out and so were all the other participants on the show. Everyone was very upset that she didnt win anything. And I realised that this was the secret of success of the show...make people related to the people on the show. Who doesnt need money and who wouldnt like to win money on an easy game show - where you neither have to be smart, nor daring, nor good looking or talented or any of that. Anyone can play the game and I think thats the beauty of it. Even though its actually a useless no brainer show, people still enjoy it for that very reason.
Anyway back to the girl...the show always starts (I think) with Mandira asking the contestant, what he / she would do with the money or why he/she needed the money. Most people come out saying they desperately need the money for something very important (always related to family) and thats where the whole 'relating' business comes in. People who are watching want this guy/girl to win, and win big or win small depending on the need. They sit back and watch but wish they could telling him/her what to do. They get agitated when the contestant doesnt take a good bank offer and get upset when a 'badi rakam' goes out...
So Simple .....

Anyone got 'White Noise', the hindi one...

Been dying to see that movie. Loved the trailers. Looked intruiging. And would like to see another movie of Koel Puri. I think she did a fantastic job in 'Everyone says I'm Fine' but she was horrible in 'Mixed Doubles'. I couldnt catch the film when it released cause I was leaving in a few days to go out of town. When I got back, the movie had already gone. My library doesnt have the movie and everytime I try to find it online, I get the english version. I like movies Rahul Bose stars in. Dont like him much. Hes an okay actor, looks funny, but mostly I think hes fake. Just talks very big (Hope Amisha never reads this entry, otherwise I'll be dead in no time)...

It surrounds me, it engulfs me, it weights me down...I cant run, I can fight, I can only suffocate....

Life can really suck...I guess it would be much easier if we didnt have feeling....detachment is cool...and useful...

Google doesnt care. They may say anything but they too are after the money...

They might keep saying 'Don't be evil' and might truely believe it is their motto, but money always comes first...the hard cold truth
And anyway 'Dont be evil' cannot be equated to 'Be virtuous'. So technically they dont need to care if they give into the Chinese govts demands.
China is a hugeeee market and getting your foot in(by hook or by crook) is very important. Expecting Google to take the high ground and say 'we wont enter on your terms, because your terms are not fair' is highly idealistic and idiotic in my opinion.
Similarly google doesnt care about tibet or taiwan or anywhere/anything/anyone else. Is it their job to? No. But we still expect it from them, and I guess it is because of the image they have. And I think this is why when they dont do things as people expect, they get termed as 'the next evil empire'..or whatever. Sure its not fair...but they are not fair...the world is not fair...

Too many things

A.k.a too much work...thought it would be a slow day, I would relax a little...but things just started piling up, and worse off I had to end up doing non important stuff, just because it was more urgent (time bound)...ridiculous. Anyway I definately dont like people who think no end of themselves and then go about throwing that around like no bodys business....hey man for all you know everyone is calling you a dumbass...get a functioning brain...get the right attitude...get a life...

Happy Commercialization Day

Same nick, different year...
Well this is my nick every year on Feb 14th...what the hell is 'Valentines Day'...what non sense...nothing but a Marketing gimmick....and guess what...people fall for it every year...Is it a good gimick then? Nope...I'll tell you why...its not that we love being romantics...and love to express how we feel and just dont find the time and therefore this is the perfect opportunity etc etc etc...all crap...its just that we are scared and such days remind us of the fragility of everything in this world...and especially our relationships...its not about love..its all about fear...anyway horrible net connection...cant explain everything right now...will try later...

So easy to fall into temptation...

Watched Shikhar (can read more about it in my movie blog) and it, even though I know it...but still it was a good reminder about how easy it is to be tempted and how easy it is to give into that temptation....
Life sucks doesnt it...

It's going to be a long long long day...

And a long long long day it was. Well actually both Friday and Saturday were long days.
Also lesson learnt....you have to work real hard to get real insight...but for insight you have to have the right sight in the first place. Everyone can look at the same thing and see that object differenly. Different people infer diffent information from the same presented information. I wish I had more of the right sight.

Taxi - both ways...

Yup, I caught a cab to the station and from the station to get back home. Why this is worth a nick...well because I use to be (I like to this that its over) a real cabaholic. The final year of college, I rarely attended, but when I did, I must have travelled (while going to college) at least 60% of the time by cab. Firstly because I was always late, secondly cause the bus to the college area would come every 20-30 minutes. And the fare wouldnt be a small amount but some how I very rarely felt guilty about spending that much on taxis. Maybe much later I would regret it, thinking of how much I might have saved or of how I was short of money because I had spend someone on something so avoidable. I wonder if its the same with shopaholics.
Anyway while returning it was always the bus, unless I was very tired or had to get some place fast. Didnt have to hurry + had the option of changing buses, which I didnt mind doing once the hour was earthly, for me that would be after noon.
Thankfully I catch the bus all of the time now. I guess its cause even though I'm late, I'm never 'late'(don't get fired at work for getting in late). But still working on trying to get to work earlier, point is, thankfully a cab will help by only 10 mins. What I need is to wake up 30 minutes before the time I usually wake up...
Will work harder to get to work on time....I hope...

Its a cartoon for crying out loud...its meant to be funny...not cause insanity...

Well I don't get it. Humans suck. And humans with stupid views suck more. Maybe they should be shot dead or something.
I mean come on, starting riots just because someone drew something, or someone said something, or someone did something, (thats small and meaningless - to have any major effect on anything), is RIDICULOUS. I guess terrorists just want to terrorize as many people as possible. I don't like labelling and I don't like generalizing either, but if not all muslims then at least fanatical muslims should calm down a little. Majority of terrorism around the world is a result of Islamic terrorists. Whatever their excuses, even vandalism and damage to property (leave aside killing people) will never be justified. Do you see everyone else getting up and going beserk, if someone makes a cartoon or a caricature or a joke...
Its always so strange, to be surrounded by muslims who want nothing but peace, not only for themselves but for everyone around them too, and then hear that so many muslims outside of India, want nothing but the opposite. Sure we get a lot of terrorist attacks in Kashmir, but I think, if not all, then at least some of us, view these terrorists as Pakistani's and not muslims.
World peace is only a nice ideal...its never going to exist in reality...

Stupid resolution...stupid idea...

Well the resolution was that I wont change my msn nick till I havent updated my blog. So what happens is because I am not very regular with this blog, I am not changing my nicks that often. 2 solutions - either forget about filing the blog with every new nick I have or being more regular with my blog.
Two would also seem like the better option but truth is, its not...do I really have to give updates all the time? I doubt it. Its not like anyone or for that matter I am interested. I think its more on the lines of just keeping in mind what happened and what lessons I should take from it all.
Anyway time will tell if it ends up being 1 or 2.

Why is she travelling in a bus...

Well to remind me of not to stereo type people/things.
There was this lady in the bus, with a kid. She didnt look like the type who would travel by a bus or a train, not even a cab because she most probably would have a car. Why I say this...well she wore very good clothes and shoes. Had a very new style Nokia phone..I dont know the model. Had colour and streaked hair(and thats not cheap) and wore sunglasses(talks about being hi fi dont you think?). Anyway she didnt look anything below upper upper middle class...and still there she was travelling by bus. And I kept thinking 'why is this woman in a bus'...'why not in a taxi if there was no driver today', etc etc. But then there could be so manyyyy reasons why she was in a bus. Maybe her kid likes the bus. Maybe shes frugal when it comes to pennies. Maybe she has taxi phobia(whatever its called - I'm sure it exists). Maybe she wanted a change....

But I still cant understand why she was travelling by bus.

You only really get 2 know people when u have fought with them. Then & only then can u judge their true character...

Read this in 'The Dairy of Anne Frank'. Well its not verbatim, but that was the jist of it. And its so true. The book is pretty good. I have difficulty believing that a 13-14 year old kid wrote it. She was very mature for her age. And even though I'm not beyond 50 pages, I have already realised that there are lots of lessons/ realizations to be picked from here.
Well we are always so goody goody to people who are not in our direct inner circle. Only the people we know very well, we fight with. I guess its cause, when we fight, we bring our ugly side out. And we don't want everyone to know that side of ours. But like Anne says, thats who we truly are right.
Also the way people fight. Some people are never satisfied till they have won or atleast believe till they have won, while others just back off and either accept what the other says or silently believe otherwise. There are others who will fight with logic while others still will try to prove their point even though they make no sense to anyone other than themselves. There are some who will get very emotional and some who will stay totally sensible. I think this reflect upon ones personality too...Don't you...

Marketing is discovering the Wow Factor. Search Marketing is utilizing the Wow Factor in the search world...

Something I read somewhere.
I think its so true. If you dont have a wow factor, you can last too long. Whether it be marketing or anything else. People might give something a chance and might even become loyal, but for number games, a wow factor is a must.
And its not just in marketing but in general, but the importance of a wow factor comes out the most and seems the most relevant in marketing or rather selling...
