In search of shininess....

Well want to make something shiny on photoshop and still haven't figure out how. Either I will have to do research or I'll have to ask the teacher. I think I'll do the latter :D lazy that I am.

Still searching for shininess.

"my goodness everything is a pain for u" - some people are very observant...

Haha Nisha said that line (cause I said something was a pain). And believes the solution is that I should get married so that I know what real pain is. Haha SUREEEEE. I might be stupid but I'm not that stupid :P

I'd rather just keep saying everything is a pain and have you call me a pain :P

Dil yeh deewana...dhoondhe thikana...

Yup lyrics of a song. I think people now figure out that such lines as my status messages only mean that there is a song I am listening to that I like. At least 1 person figured it out. Instead of anything else she asks 'How come you listening to Hindi music these days?' Hehe.

Well this if from Chandni Chowk to China - theme song by Akshay Kumar and Bohemia. It's quite nice except for the first 35 seconds :)

Interesting stuff

Don't know about the accuracy of the video but quite interesting.

Painfullllllllll....

followed by -

Progresssss....

basically working on a Photoshop assignment for class - that of creating a magazine cover. Selecting images is suchhhhh a pain. Either it will be too difficult to select and copy or already cropped in a way that it can't be used as a magazine cover pictures. Or there will be damn water marks on it.

Anyway finally decided to not pick a Bollywood actress for the cover.

I also have 2 other ideas other than a Celeb magazine cover. Lets see if I can execute either of those.

Saying things smartly is an art...

Lots of people have been asking me if I am looking for a career switch since I started my web design classes. I keep telling people 'I'm too good at Search to give it up'. It usually ends the discussions there and then :) instead of me getting asked another 100 questions which would happen if I answered any other way.

I realized though that I can take it one step further. I should tell people 'there are 1000's of brilliant designers around but not even 100's of good Search specialists'.

I'll try the line next time someone asks me the question. Would be fun to see their reaction.

:D

Was cleaning up stuff on my machine and copying a few things to my pen drive so happened to see the photos and videos I have taken over the years.

Such good times :D

Music that moves you...

I believed that the best music moves you. Not makes you move (which is also the kind of music I like) but moves you. It must be sound that resonates with your soul. Just hearing that sound should make you feel that you are somewhere else. When it starts you should want to shut your eyes and just feel something good inside of you (I am not sure if happiness is the right word here). It should be sound that you just want to keep listening to.

While I listen to a lot of songs over and over, it is rare for me to feel like I am some place else. Rare for me to want to just close my eyes and take it all in.

When I saw the intro of Cold Case towards the end of last year though, I went crazy. Not only is the music so great but the visuals fit so well with the sounds. I also enjoyed the show and I am kind of upset that it would play in the middle of the afternoon and that now they actually stopped airing it (Star World). Sucker for police dramas that I am.

Anyway below is the intro -

Below is the full song (in case you liked the music). It's called Nara by E S Posthumus. Just totally brilliant.

Impressed by Colours...

The TV channel that is. Now I am known for not watching 'hindi' serials. I mean all the saas-bahu rona-dhona nonsense I can't handle.

Recently though I find myself watching 2 shows regularly on Colours. Balika Vadhu and Jeevan Saathi. Never watched them when they started but with sister and mom watching regularly and going on about them, I thought I should check them out. I did and I find that Balika Vadhu while ridiculously showing a KID happily (and naively) married off, actually talks about social issues. It is nicely created. Jeevan Saathi I like for 2 reasons currently. I like Aamir Dalvi (playing the character of Ishwar) and there is going to be revenge that is going to be taken soon. I always love when the bad guys have to pay for what they have done :)

What is impressive about the shows is that they seem to be pre-planned properly. It doesn't seem something happens just because they couldn't do something else. It seems like everything that happens was suppose to happen because that was the way the makers of the show wanted it from the start.

I think I will continue to watch.

Even Chote Miyan rocks.

NOW I understand

Use to sit next to Manoj (longggg ago) and get frustrated when he use to keep going through pages and pages of results in Google Images.

I remember saying 'Manoj bhai mock up hai - kuch bhi utha lo - what difference does it make? Why you spending SO MUCH time searching for a pictures that you think is the perfect fit?'

And Manoj would always say 'Please let me just find the right picture right...I won't miss the deadline and it's not a headache, it's important to search for the right imagine. You wont understand...'

But NOW I do understand. It's not only about finding something that will look good over all but it is suchhhhhhhhh a pain to make selections...even with the Magnetic Lasso Tool.

Seriously, I'd rather spend an extra 20 minutes looking at more pictures to pick rather than working with a difficult picture that I have.

Yesterday was fun...

Not only were we so many people at 5 spice after so long but Manoj was up to his regular keedahgiri and met Amol and Nitin after so long. Also ended up meeting AND talking to Zainul. Hehe it was the highlight of the evening I think.

Thanks for bugging me to come Miss page 3.

@ Amol - abbe thoda aag ko jyada jala taki daal pak jaye

@ Manoj - I am not even going to shake hands with you anymore. Btw I didn't ask for a name yesterday but I do want it. Will call you sometime and get it from you.

@ Mr. Sanjeev - you should have been there.

@ Neelo - dimag pe thoda baraf rakha karo :P

@ N and R - you guys should have come even if just for a little while. But busy busy...what to do. Next time you both better be there.

Manzil khud aayi paas, dikha jalwa dikha jalwa..

I don't know where everyone will be a decade later, but I am sure all of us will be online...

Was chatting with Bhavna the other day and was mentioning how in my mind I couldn't understand how so many people (we know in common) who seem like such opposites are together (as a couple). And we finally decided that time will eventually show us whether it works out and how.

I ended up saying 'in a decade or two' and Bhavna was like 'God knows where everyone will be in a decade' and I realized that even if none of us keep in touch with each other, all of us will be online for sure. Somewhere or the other. We can't do without the internet. And it is not because we work in this industry or anything. The internet is just a part of our every day life.

So I can say with confidence that I know for sure that all of us will be on the internet even if we don't know where we are physically located.

Nearly flew a kite...

Yup yup yup...finallyyyyy had a kite flying session and learned a few things about how to fly a kite.

Firstly it was tougher than I thought it would be. Secondly there is a science and art to it. Thirdly I never quite got a kite to fly but I understood the technique that is required which I think is good enough to be able to try again and get a hang of it.

Got my friend to leave half a dozen kites and manjha with me. Will go back to the terrace sometime this week and give it another go :)

It was great fun and I finally got to do something I had wanted to since many years.

Special thanks to Tilak for taking the effort and trying to have a lot of patience in trying to teach us. Thanks also to Nams, Jyo, Aarts and Resh for being just as bad at kite flying :p I didn't feel like the only slow person there hehe.

Hahahaha...What a loser

At least the guy is openly desperate and honest unlike those guys who send their whole bio-data in an email/message/scrap etc. You know the types. Hi, my name is XYZ. I am an engineer from XYZ college working at XYZ company earning 6 figure salary blah blah blah. I mean seriously I don't care and neither will 99.9% of the people you send the message to.

First I thought it was spam till I looked closely and realized it's a friend invite in Orkut and the 'From' is actually the username of the person. Ya I'm thinking I should just delete the account. I don't use Orkut anymore. Facebook is a 100 times better (though I do hear and read that Orkut has added and is adding a lot of features that are popular on FB but the last time I logged in the only thing new was friend updates and privacy settings).

Anyway this guys is such a retard. There is no picture of mine out there. There are no scraps. Nothing. What do people like this on go on? Female name? I mean seriously how desperate can anyone be?

Happy Birthday Mon

I swear you have no shame. Been asking you for a contact number since weeks and you can't give me one. I bet you will have a number to call from, at the end of the month :P

Anyways wishing you only on FB seemed so ummm not right so you here you go (not that this makes up. I think I will not answer my phone if I see a number from Kol :P) -

Happy Birthday

All the people in the world...

Brilliant song. I like Safri Duo. They create fantastic music.

Enjoyyyy

I love photoshop :D

It's a brilliant tool.

Are you going to be flying kites today?...

I so badly want to learn how to fly a kite.

As a kid we use to at least try now not even that. I guess as you grow older you end up being more self-conscious about things you can't do and are scared to attempt them because you worry everyone will either know you are silly or that you fail at simple things that they mastered when they were kids.

Anyway the last 3 years on Jan 14th I have been at work (or it has been a weekend and I wouldn't want to travel) so it was difficult to go and find someone who was flying kites and ask them to teach me. This year I asked a sisters friend. He said okay but it seems he is going to be stuck in a meeting :(

I don't have to fly a kite on Jan 14th so if today it doesn't work out, I am going to try Friday or Sunday (Saturday I have class and a movie).

Let's hope 2009 is my year for kite flying.

Got the most brilliant New Year card from Baidu :D

Baidu is brilliant when it comes to greeting cards.

I swear I have never received a more beautiful and warm card before.

I haven't done a lot of work with them personally but I was thinking that they are super considerate to send a card to me. All the people in the department also personally signed it :)

It made my day yesterday (ya it was lying around in office so I got it only yesterday).

Happy New Year to all the people in the VIP department at Baidu :D

Have you ever been a 'giggly girl'...?

Am in this cinema hall and there is this bunch of teenagers - you know 15 - 16 years old. Some 2 guys and 3 girls or something. All hip and happening type of South Mumbai kids.

So anyway these 2 girls say something to each other and start laughing.

I turn to my cousin and ask 'Have you ever been a giggly girl?'

She smiles and says she never has.

So I say 'I don't mean someone who laughs in a giggling manner'. She laughs now saying 'ya don't worry I know what you mean. I some how might seem like a 'giggly girl' but I never have been'.

I was trying to explain what I meant by 'giggly girl' to someone and found it was quite hard. Bimbo is too harsh a word (blond as suggested by someone is better but not quite) cause you know these are young kids but I never quite understand how people can be like that. You know just ...umm silly. How there can be people in the world who say meaningless things to each other and feel happy about it. I don't understand how there are girls who can watch a guy walk by and start "giggling" (cause they have some secret joke going on).

I never was that kind of person and I don't know how someone can be. I'm not judging, especially cause 'giggly girls' are just girls. They will grow up (maybe they won't also). They will figure there is more to life. Maturity will come to them (or it won't) and they will look back and think about how silly they were.

And then I think is that really a good thing? Should you go from being 'giggly' to being morose? Yes maybe I am taking extremes and being over dramatic.

Anyway there isn't a proper train of thought here.

I never was a 'giggly girl'. Never would or want to be one. It's silly to be silly when life is so full of important things.

Cakes Cuttings...

Yes I do know how wrong that it but I thought it would be fun to talk like Javed Jaffrey in that movie with Priety and Saif (don't remember the name - only Hum Tum keeps coming to mind hehe).

So I was at the office today and knew there is going to be a cake cutting session. 2 birthdays on the weekend and 2 birthdays today. A cake cutting session at office is always fun. No matter what the occasion. And today was definitely not a let down. Had a lot of fun. This is one 'tradition' I am going to miss for sure.

Manik was sweet enough to ask me to come into office whenever there was cake cutting but I doubt that's going to happen. I'm too lazy to do all that travelling to chill with these guys (especially when they will be busy and me totally free).

Happy Birthday Beverly, Sneha, Kaushik and Archana :)

Today was fun. Good imitation of MARS and good singing too hehe. Glad none of you got saved from the snow cans and cake smashing :)

Deepali doesn't have to worry about Monday morning blues :D.

[Not a chat status message. A Facebook status message but same difference]

So ya I don't have to worry about Monday mornings.

:D

Am I thrilled? Of course I am.

Are people jealous? Of course they are.

Hehe already got 1 'ass' for this. I am sure I am going to get a 'creep' too. And a bunch of other names :)

I love my life :)

And I honestly wish that people didn't have to worry about Monday mornings. That people didn't wake up groaning about how the weekend was over. That going to work didn't seem like such a task.

Here's wishing everyone (who deserves it) has a better professional life in 2009.

Can't believe nearly half of January is already over...

Where are the days disappearing to?

I did catch the sun...

So like (at least) the last 3 years, this year too I watched the sun rise.

Though I must admit it was VERY cold and swinging on the swing (even very slowly) was a stupid thing to do in such a situation. Yes I did go back to my room and searched for my sweater (which is something super rare in my cupboard which is why I own only 1 - I mean who wears a sweater in Mumbai unless you like ride a bike at 6 AM regularly or something). But I had no luck. So I went back out with my bed-sheet (stupid again because I shouldn't have bothered - its so thin anyways) and not my blanket because my blanket would have either go dirty on the swing or if it go dragged on the terrace floor (which is super dusty except for about 5 mins after the maid cleans it). It's a blanket and not a shawl you can fold around yourself and walk about.

Anyway this year wasn't so impressive. Even leaving aside the cold. The night didn't turn to day in a beautifully dramatic fashion. Instead the sky was shades of oranges and blacks and then just light blue. No moon. No morning star. Nothing :(

Also I could finally see the sun at only 7:30. I think I was a little foolish of going out at 6:45 (especially after knowing that the sun would rise at 7:11 [according to some website]). But I guess hope is always good. And honestly I was sort of sleepy. It was after all the most 'hectic' New Years Eve.

Like every year there were interesting observations this year too.

The horizon was orange and there are lots of under construction buildings around. Seeing those building and all the cranes around them was quite eerie. I don't know why but it was. Maybe childhood ghost stories about haunted places and the 'not yet light' bit.

But of course made me think about what this city is becoming. I remember when it was rare to see building over 5-6 stories (with exceptions like maker towers and usha kiran and the likes). Now it's rare to see building that are being built with only 5-6 floors. Like some smart person told me 'when there is no more land left to build building on, the only way you can go is up'.

For me my sky line is changing. And nothing proves that more than the fact that before when the sun used to rise on Jan 1st I could see it at the horizon. Today I have to wait for it to rise above a building :(

I know lots of people would wonder what the big deal is with that but when you grow up believing certain things should be a certain way, it's difficult to accept things that change that set notion.

I saw these 2 people (elderly) walking on their building terrace across the lane. For them this looked like just another morning. 1st of January meant nothing. They were up there at 6:30-7:00 AM as they are everyday (assuming they are seeing as how the walk looked like a routine). I always wonder about those people for whom the day is just like any other (like the dhobis who are at their routine every year - this year I didn't hear them though). For most of them I am sure it is not a choice but part of their livelihood. The other people who don't seem to care are older people. I guess for them it's just that all this 'celebration' seems like a youngsters thing or that they celebrate their New Year on another day in other ways.

This year I felt that the birds were extra loud. But of course that isn't the case. The birds are as loud as they are at any point in time. It's just that the surrounding is so quiet that they seem loud. Only after did I hear the train whistle did the point come to me. Now we rarely hear a train whistle except very late in the night or very early in the morning or on a very quiet afternoon. Just goes to show how things 'are' so different under different circumstances.

I thought about how uneventful 2008 seemed but how quickly it seemed to have passed. I also thought about 2009 and realized that it either might be the most uneventful year (in recent times i.e. the last 6-7 years) or the most interesting. This is going to be my year in more ways than 1. Or at least the first 6 months.

One of my resolution for the year is to be better prepared for 1st Jan 2010. Warm clothes and warm coffee to keep the cold and sleep away. Also maybe next year I will try to go to the building terrace and see if I can catch the sun at the horizon. Will also take pictures maybe. Hopefully I will end up buying a new camera this year. Not that I don't like my current one, but it's not the best thing around to capture unforgettable moments.

Here's wishing everyone a brilliant 2009.

Waiting for the sun to rise...

Here I am at 5:11 AM, not wide awake but not half asleep either...waiting for the sun to rise.

For some reason I always watch the 1st sunrise of the New Year. And since I am not the kind of person who would wake up (and stay up after having slept properly) to watch night turn into day, I always end up staying up till 7 AM or so.

This year sunrise is going to happen at 7:11 AM but obviously it will get light by 6:30-6:45 AM or so, which makes it better because I have a little over an hour to waste away.

Last year I wrote down in the early dawn why it was that I though I have made this a ritual. I sounded very lame with the whole 'new day new beginning' rubbish. Honestly I don't think it's symbolic because I don't need this symbolism in my life. Accept and move on is something I tell myself to do all the time.

I think there are 2 other reasons I do this every year -

1) When I first started doing this I think it was as a sign of rebellion. You know someone staying up till 7 AM to do something like wait for daybreak is not something that my parents really understand. I think the first few times I told them I wanted to do this (back then maybe the symbolism was needed) they would tell me to shut up and go to sleep. I honestly don't know how many times I have done this but I remember 3 in the past distinctly with 2 happening the last 2 years. It's a great feeling to actually do something you want to do, which people don't think you should bother doing.

2) I rarely see a sunrise. When I was in school once in a while I would catch one either because I was studying too late or waking up too early to study or to go for sports day or to attend some extra tuition etc. Now it's not important to see a sunrise. Not important at all but I like it. I like how night turns to day. I love watching the moon in the early morning. I love the different shades of blue the sky turns in the span of a few minutes. The chill of the early hours. I love 'feeling' life come alive around me - the birds chirping, the sounds of the dhobis washing clothes somewhere, a few people venturing out for their morning walk. The last star fading. I guess I love the idea of watching such rapid (beautiful) change happening. Since on New Years, I am up till at least 3 AM usually, it firstly becomes a lot easier to stay up and secondly if I watch the sunrise on the 1st of January itself, I fill I have finished a task I was suppose to compete at least once in the year.

Wow enough of rambling. It's 5:23 AM. The net sucks, I have a stand-by CPU which doesn't even have MS office forget my documents, music, videos etc. So every minute just seems very long. I do have the CD 'Rock On' (which I haven't seen as yet) but I will have to go to the hall and unlock the doors and turn everything on etc and I am too lazy.

Well anyway don't know what I will do for the next hour but I am sure I won't sleep before 7:15. No way am I going to stay up this late and miss the sunrise.

Happy 2009 :D
