Warming is also forcing some mountain plant species to adapt by moving to higher altitudes as it kills them in their traditional ranges. In Southern California, for example, warming temperatures and longer dry spells have killed thousands of tree and plants, while pushing their habitats an average of 213 feet up the Santa Rosa Mountains over the past 30 years, according to a new study detailed in the Aug. 11 issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Previous studies have also catalogued the ways that climate change is knocking the nature out of whack: birds are migrating earlier in the season; reptiles and amphibians are also heading for the hills to reach cooler climes; and the timing of plant blooms is shifting as the Earth heats up.

When will people realize that climate change is not going to affect all of us personally. It won't be direct and disastrous for every single one of us.

We have to just believe that climate change is affecting us badly and that pollutions WILL affect not just climate but the entire earth.

I swear I hate the debate on Global Warming and whether humans are speeding it up or not. And I bet even just on my blogs you will find I have said this a number of times. The point is pollutions in the atmosphere, the soil, the seas is obviously NOT GOOD. And yet we keep pollution.

Just watch The Inconvenient Truth today. Didn't like how it was made. It was highly dramatized around Al Gore. The whole movie seemed like his life struggle to do something rather than the real issue at hand.

Anyway the one thing I hate about most activists is that they want people to totally turn over a new leaf. They want extremist action. I think it would ALWAYS be wiser to ask LOTS of people to make little changes then get a few people to make a lot of changes. There are multiple reasons I think a 'small impact by large group' is a better approach. One of the most obvious being that more people are involved. They are aware. The other being that I think 1000 people shutting the tap while brushing their teeth would have more of an impact than 10 people switching to a life with only public transport. The other obvious thing is that it is easier to get lots of people to turn of their tap while they brush than it is to get people to not depend on their cars.

You give people ways to conserve resources which will not change their lifestyle majorly, they will accept the change. But you ask someone to make a change that will change the way they are use to living - well best of luck.

Small changes big difference - A game of the masses. Not just a handful of people.

Aghhhh I hate just ranting about this stuff. An environmental NGO is I think where I will be working for the next 3 months. It makes the most sense. It's something I am passionate about. I wouldn't need patience I do not have (like when it comes to teaching kids). It's a sphere of work I think needs a lot more attention than it's getting.

I can't understand why nothing substantial is getting done to stop oil spills. I mean everyone knows that these cause lots of damage to the environment, so why is it that we can build in more safety to see that oil spills don't happen the way they are happening right now. Sure you can stop a disaster from happening. Ships will break, they will sink, but I am sure a few more measures can be added to try and prevent so much damage.

I mean what are shipping companies not bothered about how much oil actually gets wasted? This is one of the reason, I keep praying that oil prices keep increasing. Oil should be so dear that any leakage or loss would be unbearably expensive and therefore systems / technologies, would come into place to prevent wastage.

Well don't know how much I follow the whole 'Live for today - worry about tomorrow, tomorrow'.

When I was younger everyone thought I was too serious. Of course I never thought the same. I thought that everyone else was too carefree.

Over the years I don't think I have lost my seriousness though it does seem that way. I think it's the whole 'shit happens, I'll deal with it cause I have to' funda. It's not a mantra for my life obviously because if you can prevent mess ups and uncomfortable situations, then you must. But I have realised that there are things beyond my control.

The funny thing though is that I am not angry at the world anymore. When I was younger, I use to get very upset about issues like the environment, population, unemployment, etc. Now I don't really bother. I don't like this 'who cares' attitude much but I do find myself more at peace. I know in the long run, we are ruining our world because of this 'It's not my problem' attitude but I am just too content at the moment....
