Question Time - Solitaire (Sneha - to avoid confusion)

Do you analyze all the comments that people leave behind at your blog? Not necessarily intentionally but is it that if someone says X you know it means ABC and if someone says Y you equate it to some PQR?

Didn't have an email address to write to you so put the question up here (as this is the blog you visit). You can reply to me on email if you don't want to here. The address is on my profile page.

Just curious - you don't even have to reply if you don't want to.

WOW! Surprised to see something for me here!!

Before I answer this question, I am curious about why you are asking me this question. Can you tell me why?

Oh oh you answered a question with a question...

lol kidding.

Generally interested but the thinking is actually a little more complex - let me respond in short -

1) We say what we say based on who we are, how we think etc so something about our personality shows in what we write.

2) We think X when we say something but other people may never think of X because it isnt part of their understanding, experience, education etc. So perspective is very difference to begin with. Which is why I am basically asking about comments not someone elses blog posts.

3) Knowing psychology is like knowing a secret language which everyone talks but few know they speak. I was reading a book on graphology recently and when I saw someones signatures, I couldnt help but make a comment on it. It's like being able to see beyond what is just there. It wasn't a conscious effort to analyze the guys signature but because the reading was fresh in my mind, I connected the two - his writing and its 'analysis' in graphology terms so was pretty curious.

Haha and of course you gets LOTS of people responding, which is another reasons. If hardly anyone writes back what is the point. And most responses become conversations.

Anyway I hope this is good enough.

There is a thing called "social desirability". We all like to say and write things that we think may be accepted better by others even if we think otherwise. And therefore, not everything that everyone says will be a true reflection of who they actually are.

Its true that the meanings of words uttered are different for different people. Therefore, what I intend to say may be misinterpreted royally by someone else.

Psychology is not a mystery game. Neither does it teach you to mind read. Besides there are so many different types of psychology areas. My area is clinical psychology and therefore, I would be more concerned with those who have some mental distress than those who are commenting to have fun.

Why do people respond? I dunno!!

Hope this answers your question.
