Why have igo issues man? I always feel that people who have igo issues are people who in their minds don't know their worth. Then I re-think and tell myself I am wrong. That I let things go not because I don't have igo issues but mainly because I have this 'let it go...who cares' attitude. I am not indifferent all the time but I do think that everyone has a right to get angry and everyone does feel frustrated, and everyone will have outbursts, and some people at some point in time will attack you. It's life. Shit happens. You just got to work things out.
I am straying. I hate confrontations and I always try and avoid them. I don't like the idea of yelling at someone (especially someone below me or younger than me). The only people who do hear me scream are my direct family. And that also because I think family forgives and forgets easily and fast enough. I do wish that I had more patience at home, at least half of what I had at work but I guess there is alway a difference in the way you communicate depending on who you are communicating with.

I love thunder and lightening. While this doesn't really capture lightening, it at least captures it's effect.

I was on the phone for 40 minutes today with someone I have known for nearly a year and a half. And guess what, I came to know she has 2 kids. Didn't even know she was married.
It's so strange how you know people but don't really know them. We spoke about so much stuff - her work place, my work, how much her competitors suck, her staff, me having family in HK and Manila and she having family in Sydney and US, the weather, people we both know, etc etc. It was a fun conversation. Mainly because I have known Manjula for so long but haven't really know much about her and now I filled in a lot more paint into the picture.
:) It was great talking to you Manjula, let's hope we do it more often.
Tomorrow (or next week) I will call her Meera :)

Got out this old handwriting analysis book I had somewhere in some drawer.

I love it. Even though it's a pseudoscience, it is damn interesting. And to some extent it is very believable or at least some aspects of it. I mean sure if you are angry you will have pressured writing. Or if you are in a hurry, then the dots on your i's and the slashes on your t's will be more toward the right. Not all of it I would accept but at the end of the day it's fun. Not that have analysed anyones handwriting but it's interesting to know.
The other pseudoscience I am very interested in is posture analysis. Maybe I'll dig up a book on that too.

When will people realize that climate change is not going to affect all of us personally. It won't be direct and disastrous for every single one of us.
We have to just believe that climate change is affecting us badly and that pollutions WILL affect not just climate but the entire earth.
I swear I hate the debate on Global Warming and whether humans are speeding it up or not. And I bet even just on my blogs you will find I have said this a number of times. The point is pollutions in the atmosphere, the soil, the seas is obviously NOT GOOD. And yet we keep pollution.
Just watch The Inconvenient Truth today. Didn't like how it was made. It was highly dramatized around Al Gore. The whole movie seemed like his life struggle to do something rather than the real issue at hand.
Anyway the one thing I hate about most activists is that they want people to totally turn over a new leaf. They want extremist action. I think it would ALWAYS be wiser to ask LOTS of people to make little changes then get a few people to make a lot of changes. There are multiple reasons I think a 'small impact by large group' is a better approach. One of the most obvious being that more people are involved. They are aware. The other being that I think 1000 people shutting the tap while brushing their teeth would have more of an impact than 10 people switching to a life with only public transport. The other obvious thing is that it is easier to get lots of people to turn of their tap while they brush than it is to get people to not depend on their cars.
You give people ways to conserve resources which will not change their lifestyle majorly, they will accept the change. But you ask someone to make a change that will change the way they are use to living - well best of luck.
Small changes big difference - A game of the masses. Not just a handful of people.
Aghhhh I hate just ranting about this stuff. An environmental NGO is I think where I will be working for the next 3 months. It makes the most sense. It's something I am passionate about. Digicam or Handycam?...
I want a new digicam and soon. Not that my current one isn't good. It's just that I want one which negates shaky hands. Sometimes a bad workman should get extra good tools :)
The only thing I am wondering is whether I should get a digicam or finally go and get myself a video camera. I am sure that I would take more pictures than I would movies but a handycam is something I have wanted for a long time. And I do have a digital camera and a mobile phone with a camera (which takes decent pictures many a times).
More than price my issue is using the gadget. Anyway can't do anything till the end of the money. Hehe no money in the bank currently. So I have a while to decide. Hopefully by next month end, I'll be poorer in my back but invested in a beautiful device that captures events.
Fleeting thought - when will the day come when virtual reality devices will get fed by our real life experiences and we will be able to 'relive' the experiences we want to. A picture never does justice to a place/moment. Neither does a video. Being at a certain place at a certain time can never be captured. Even our feelings (when we were at that place at that time) fade faster than we would like (note I am talking about happy feelings, happy moments, happy places etc). Ah waiting for technology that you know could become reality gives a certain sort of comfort.

HiPPO
Was watching a webinar yesterday and I came across this cool word - HiPPO.
The discussion was about changes to a website and the person was talking about how changes usually happen and his slide was as follows -

1 and 3 are easy. 1 talks about how you make a change because you think a change is good. 3 is the ideal way to do things. Do a before and after testing when making changes. HiPPO is actually common practice sometimes but never had such a 'catchy' name for it. It stands for Highest Paid Person in the Organisation. The speak was saying how changes can happen because the HiPPO says so or how you go ask the HiPPO what should be done and they give you an answer (cause mostly they are the most experienced or knowledgeable).

Below is a small extract that I liked. I am always critical of an idea first mainly because I think what is the point of wasting time discussing something that I think is going to fail. Finding a new idea is the most difficult choice because it requires being curious first and asking numerous questions. Then creatively looking for the new ideas in the answers.
The next time you hear a new idea, spend the first 60 seconds just thinking about all of it's possibilities. Being curious first, allows you to find out what is right with the idea. Even if the idea is finally rejected, you are aware of the idea's rightness and can apply that to another challenge you're facing.
Being critical first, is a costly mistake because it allows excuses to drive the creative thought process. It's amazing to watch a typical new idea interchange. Usually within eight seconds someone proclaims what is wrong with the new idea and then all you see are the pitfalls. Just think if everyone had looked at the pitfalls before they leaped, we'd still be crouched in caves sketching animal pictures on walls.

Skin Aging Cream...Imagine a cream that makes you look older
Copy pasting this from my private blog cause it's too funny.
Man I had the most hilarious day in office.
I think this tops all offices 'gone wild with laughter' minutes. And there have been a few - meenakshi sheshadri, meeting khatam ho gayi, make money site, all of it I swear. I bet it's going to be my TOP recruitment moment.
It's one of those - if you weren't there you won't get it but still I bet every time I think of this I am going to laugh.
Gautam and I were going through one of the standard test at work of a candidate. I was wondering how this guy having so much experience in the line could come up with only 2 major targeting ideas. Especially when he was asked for 8. It's not complicated but I won't get technical. For those who understand Search, he had to give sample ad groups. The product was a biotech company website that sells mainly skin care products and their top product being an anti-aging cream.
Anyway so both me and Gautam were talking about how it is that people with experience can't seem to provide a satisfactory number of groups. I had already browsed through some of it and so had Gautam and suddenly he said 'Skin aging cream' lolllllll damn it did take a few seconds to sink it but when it did, oh shit. It like this guy is selling the total opposite of what we want him to sell. Actually he was going to start a whole new industry for aging products of a different kind.
Then I went ahead and started making up ads for the product - the exact opposite of what you would see in an anti-aging ad.
Imagine an ad that said to you - 'Now look as old as your grandma'. Or 'Date your fathers friends' lolllll. Or 'Wrinkles in 15 days. Money back gaurantee'. Of course I got some serious stuff done too. Imagine an ad targeted at a 12-14 year old saying 'Now you can get into that disco'.
Haha Skin Aging Products lol damn the whole notion is only so whacked out.
The we were talking about how you can have skin aging product selling side by side with anti-aging products. So some time people use the aging stuff and then the anti-aging stuff.

Valency Electrons - Balancing +
Got a small Chemistry lecture today. It was interesting. Couldn't help but think that most things we don't understand and therefore hate, come to be because we never understood the basics.
I never understood a valency or the reason for short forms or how the balancing worked in chemical formulas. I use to hate the practical stuff in chem mainly because I didn't understand the foundation of how it all works.
Pretty tragic.
I think it's the same case we Maths.
We desperately need good teachers in schools. Not just those who know their stuff but those who can figure out why other people would not understand that which is so simple to them.
Negative is when there is a need.

Sample Universe...
I am alwayssssss skeptical about a research report (all of it) if I find that a result of the study is totally opposite of what I would have believed or assumed.
Now it might be wrong to feel that way but it could also be that the sample selected isn't a very good sample. If the sample doesn't reflect the universe, then there needs to be a special mention of the same.
Sure sometimes it might be true that my perception is that of an urban educated working woman, but seriously somethings are just not believable no matter what perception you have.
For example there is a report on 'what women want' and under 'new age applications picking up' we have social networking and p2p downloads - guess what %ages turn up - 4% and 3% respectively. Now either women don't know what social networking means or they don't know what p2p means. I mean you seriously want me to believe that 4% 'pick up' orkut and 3% pick up limewire. I think that is impossible. Therefore I am assuming that I am reading the report wrong.
And then (let me just take stats for Working Women) - in 'top of mind recall', yahoo gets a 57-59%, meaning 59 of out 100 women 'recall' yahoo but Google gets 20-21%. Amongst college kids, Yahoo has 60% and Google 17%. Now that's just ridiculous even if I discount for Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger. But seriously??? I mean okay maybe again I am misunderstanding what top of mind recall means (they say it is the first website that a respondent recalls - doesn't make sense to me but whatever).

It Rained...
1) Yuck, yuck, yuck - expect for the little thunder and lightning and the smell of wet earth.
(I will never understand how people talk about loving the rain).
2) We are so NOT ready for the monsoons. Thankfully we will get another 2 weeks at most but we are so not having a smooth monsoon this year.
Time to go buy some rain shoes/chappals.
100% sure that the idea of buying a second class pass (train) for a short while is a bad one. So renewal of my first class pass.

Twittering...
Hahah it's insane. Insanely perfect too actually.
Well finally on Twitter. Heard about it a while ago (I think Ashwan told me about it while he was still here) and also got a couple invites but didn't want to get onto another site where I would have to write. (Tried having a wordpress blog but didn't like the UI so stuck to blogspot and only put up 2 posts up there).
But finally decided it might be worth the effort because Twitter is in the news a lot lately for the amount of traffic it is getting. So created login and put up my first 'post'.
The reason it is perfect according to me is because each post can only be 140 characters long and that is good because 1) people can't rant and rant and rant 2) everyone else writes a short post - no issues for me to read.
Why it is insane is because you end up knowing so much more than you otherwise would about others who use twitter. For instance I came to know M (the only person I have on there right now. Will hopefully find more people I know soon) had fractured her hand (a while ago I am assuming since her plaster is off already). Hope it is all good M. (I would also dare to assume she is a left handed person by deducing another of her 'update'). She is into coffee and is a Starbucks loyalist but now enjoys Mcmocha. And a lot more stuff obviously. All this information came in some 20 or so posts (3 minutes tops) while I haven't known any of this from flowing her blog for quite a long time. Freaky but then again what is ever private once it is published on the net?
The User Interface isn't the best in the world but I have to admit that 'twittering' is easy. The site is pretty slow though and UI and speed are two reasons that make me think right away that Google should buy them over hehe.
Yahoo and MSN are out. Neither are masters of either. I mean Panama is so damn slow - it is such a turn off. If yahoo had the volumes or greatly superior traffic I wouldn't even crib. But let me not start, I could go on and on.
I wonder how they will monetize it. I would have to assume ads (I didn't see any yet). Which as an online advertiser I might be glad about (so many more opportunities for 'eyeballs'). What I think they should do though is collect some more demographic information from it's users. Of course there can be contextual targeting based on what the users are talking/writing about but in 140 characters, I don't know if it makes sense unless there is a theme or multiple mentions of the same thing.
Anyway lets see how it goes. Will at least use it for a few more days.

Haha just figured 30 minutes after I published the post that their 'Create an Account' form is messed up. If you type a name which is unavailable and hit tab and then hit shift tab to go back to the first field of 'Username', the unavailable shows as available. I am sure it won't let you create an account and will come back with the error after you hit submit but it still is 'bad user experience'.

What a day...
Well it started of badly.
Missed a workshop I wanted to attend.
Anyway got a haircut - so far it is still pretty decent to look at. Waiting to see what it looks like after the first wash.
Caught Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with a couple of friends. Liked it. Loved the way it was made.
Then met up with another friend. And didn't have to go too far either. Everything happened within 30 mins of home :)
Those weekends when I catch up with people are usually always good. Mainly I think because it seems like an achievement in a way. I mean I love being home - watching TV - reading a novel - these days watching the clouds. But 1 more TV show or another 200 pages doesn't mean what it use to.
Maybe it is a phase but also maybe it is me changing what I like to do with my time.

I started using Stumble Upon (after a long time - had first downloaded it just to figure out what exactly it was. Actually downloaded it this time for the same reason).
I think it is a pretty good way to find sites on the net that are related to topics you are interested in. Or at least broader topics you are interested in.
Not sure of all the features and I think there are similar sort of bookmarking and searching/finding tools like Stumble Upon but since this is the only one I know, I would definitely recommends downloading and using it.

Happy Birthday Amol...
Apart from Key/Nisha and a few other people, Amol always gets a MSN display message birthday greeting (though since he never logs on anymore there, I think next year I will just write a post without the display nick name).
The reason for the same is because the nick would mean a mention on the blog. Why I do this is to remember that I am highly grateful to the guy for pushing me into the world of blogging (indirectly) :)

Reading...
There is so much knowledge out there and there is so little we can / want to absorb. This weekend I decided that I would spend at least 2 hours every weekend reading any that might add to my knowledge / life.
Maybe I will blog (every weekend) about anything interesting I read.
Came across an article on Dumb Little Man - Obtain the Desired Result by Making the Right Kind of Effort.
The article doesn't really give you tips that will make you more efficient in result achievement tomorrow itself. But I like it a lot and I guess that is because in a way it is talking about learning from observing what is around you and then implementing that learning. It talks about how we should look at nature and learn how to work with minimum effort to achieve maximum results.

The article doesn't really give you tips that will make you more efficient in result achievement tomorrow itself. But I like it a lot and I guess that is because in a way it is talking about learning from observing what is around you and then implementing that learning. It talks about how we should look at nature and learn how to work with minimum effort to achieve maximum results.

Why can't US TV shows be like Saas Bahu serials?...
My favourite character in CSI (Sarah Sidle) left the series in Season 8 episode 7 - Goodbye and Goodluck.
So damn depressing. I mean if this was a hindi serial and the actor wanted to leave, they would make the character have an accident and lo and behold we have another actor take the place cause the character went through plastic surgery.
Okay I am talking rot. No one would play Sarah Sidle after Jorja Fox has. Not because Jorja Fox was totally brilliant (not that she wasn't). It's just that when you spend time with a character - seeing a face to a personality, a name, a person for so long, no matter what happens, you cannot accept a new face and associate it to that same person.
But Sarah was my favouriteeeeeeee character man. This sucks. I can't believe I didn't hear about this even though it's old news. I mean sure I make a conscious effort not to get any information about the English shows I watch cause they all air in India after month of being aired in the US and I feel it spoils the fun. But this was such a shock. I would have thought that someone would have told me.
The show will never be the same. I mean I like Grissom too (the character) and Greg but Sarah's character was the besttttt.
Ya I am fussing and being depressed about a TV character and I think I will always do it. It's not weird. It's natural if you watch a well etched character for so long.

Yahooooo....
Attended the YSM Panama platform launch for India tonight.
It was GOOD FUN. Met lots of people so did the whole 'networking' thing. Got cool gifts. I must admit that whatever we have got from Google, Yahoo and MSN, Yahoo totally steals the show when it comes to giving out stuff. Had a good laugh with the group that was there. Dinner wasn't so great but the 'dinning area' was BRILLIANT. Didn't take any pictures (Grand Hyatt at Santacruz) but like G said, 'A camera doesn't really capture things too well - it's never the real deal'.
Lol highlight of the evening was Caramel Kulfi though.
Nice evening. Will make it a point to attend more such 'events' in the future instead of ignoring them.

Ever heard 'Gangsta's Paradise'?
I was just thinking how important it is to understand something before you can teach it because if you can't understand how can you really explain? How can you answer questions? How can you anticipate doubts? How can you be sure that others have understood?
So I just remembered these lines from the song (maybe I misunderstood the song lines but maybe I didn't). Liked the song even as a school kid when I neither understood the what Coolio was singing and even if I understood what he was saying, I doubt I would understand the song cause I didn't know what words like homies and hood and all meant. I guess it was the music. The other lines that I always remember are - I'm 23 now but will I live to see 24, the way things are going I don't know.
It's funny how you can learn from anything, anywhere. Just need to keep your eyes and ears open I guess.

Totally love the Vodafone ad (Happy to Help) currently on air. The campaign is running purely to build image. I mean how many mobile service providers spend money on talking about customer service?
T love the song. The ad visual on the whole is alright, never was a big fan of the dog following a kid everywhere.
Also the other thing that is interesting is that Vodafone has adopted the hutch advertising theme (with the pug). I would have assumed they would have switched to some global advertising theme they might have had. The stick like figure cartoons are also still around. It's all good. Localizing to connect.

Inability...
We all suffer many times from some inability or the other.
Since I am blogging, I will confess my inability to express properly the way I think and feel. Ya I am proud of my one liners which come out nicely (especially when you get a context to them) but when I have to write a long post, I feel all over the place even if I am not.
Structure defeats me. Brevity defeats me. Language too sometimes defeats me.
Anyway the way to deal with an inability is to try and over come it, either by getting the right training or doing the task over and over. So thankfully there is a way out.
Now I am not saying I will write longer posts - I hate reading long posts (I have confessed this before. I really do unless the topic is something I can relate to or the writing style is something that either similar to mine or super - then I will read a post of even 5000 words) so I won't write long posts. What I will do is re-write semi long posts and try to make them shorter. (Provided I have the time of course).

Hello...
Well it is so that other people say hello back but no one has :(
I guess everyone has 'grown up' and is too busy lol. Where are all the lukhas gone?
Anyway it is strange how we rarely hear 'hello' now as compared to 'hi'. Maybe it is just the kind of industry I am in, or the people I am around. We all 'hi' each other and even people we are introduced to rather than saying 'hello' to them.
Guess 'hi' isn't as "insulting" as it use to be. The highly informal, highly non respectful, sign of a rebel word has evolved. Could also be because those who grew up with it are the ones in the drivers seat now rather than those who were before them.

OMG...
If I had a rupee for everyone I had to say Oh my God, I would be so much richer.
I mean so many things happen EVERYDAY that are so damn unbelievably stupid that you can't help but wonder how is something so wrong with someone/something.
[The below is a useless rant so don't bother reading]
I'm studying and the book I have for the subject (Research Methodology) has typos and grammatical errors. I mean a few here and there is fine but I must have found at least a dozen mistakes already. And this is ME. I usually always overlook mistakes and get the right version of something. I am horrible at proof reading that way. But I found so many mistakes. Which of course leads me to think there are more which I skipped over.
I am okay with having errors in things you write but not in things you write which gets publish. I mean for crying out loud, hire a proof reader to look over the book that is going to be in circulation (even if it is just for students).
It a horrible book by the way. Not sure if the subject is horrible. Research can be interesting and have done some of this stuff in early college so it isn't so bad but the more I am studying the book, the less I want to.
Ahhh I think my sis is right - economics last year was better than this subject this year. Lets hope I clear. I don't even want more than a 40 in the paper. I will cover up my marks with all the other papers.

What's playing on your music player?....
I need more English music - Allllllll the music channels seems to play only hindi music now days (don't watch VH1 - it's not in the 300-312 channels [music channel section in CAS] - it's in the lifestyle channel section).
God I remember how I was an 'early adopter' of FM back in the day. 1994 I guess. Use to listen to this 'english top 20' show or something. I was always the first to know new 'happening' songs in school :)
Then everyone got hooked to English songs cause it was the cool thing so I was like everyone else.
Then there was Bhavna - she would give me a list of songs before we had even heard of it or the singer here in India.
Now all I get is latest hindi music from TV.
So what you listening to?

Soooooo Happy - CSI is back.....
Yeah baby. Season 8 - Monday nights at 11 PM only on AXN.
Ahhhhhhhhh I love a lot of TV shows but I think CSI (The ORIGINAL - Las Vegas) will always be my first true love in terms of TV serials.

Sense of Humour
A 'TBC' for why this post comes to be.
I don't laugh at anything and everything. And somethings I go mad laughing at/about. It's got nothing to do other than the kind of sense of humour I have. I think we all have different things that we find funny and therefore different people laugh at different things and not at all things 'funny'.
My favourite type of humour is physical comedy. Not a wise crack. Not something witty. But someone getting half a heart attack when something jumps out of a box. Things falling out of trees scaring the hell out of people. That's the kind of thing that makes me laugh.
Please note - I am talking about stuff on TV and not in real life. I would hate having things jump out at me so I sympathize with people who are 'victims' but it's just very funny.

17 Only...
Attended blogcamp this year (found it quite a waste of time - will have a post about that later) and had a bunch of (if I may say) obnoxious 'kids' talking back to the talkers. While I didn't like their attitude too much I was totally blown over by the amount they know about the internet. It wasn't funny. So later I actually started a conversation (small one) with 2 of them and found that one of them was a CEO and he was 17 years old.
I was so shocked. His colleague was older but didn't look too old either maybe at the most 10 years old and the other kid with them was a friend who was also 17 years old.
It is pretty pathetic to see such young people know so much. Makes me jealous. I didn't even really understand then net at 17 and here were people who were on top of everything that happened in the online world.
I need to be more focused for sure.

Aches and Pains..
Man having aches and pains is a real pain. I suddenly had aching ankles and then aching wrists. I think the 1 aching ankle happened because I nearly slipped. And then other aching ankle and aching wrists happens because of the 1st aching ankle.
There was more aches and pains but they are gone now thanks to sleeping a lot. I don't even want to mention it now cause one should stay away from being 'not in a normal state' as much as possible.
If only we all were more careful about our health....

Happy Holi...
The holi highlight of the year was most definitely Khushboo saying 'Deepaliiiiiii pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee you don't need to say it. Everyone would figure that you don't play holi'.
Lol you all know me too well.
I hate the smell of the colours and I fall ill if I am wet for too long. So I totally avoid Holi. I don't miss it though. So it's all good.
This year though we didn't play 'catch' with water balloons :( maybe later in the day. Use to be hilarious when we would - everyone is so scared, not of dropping the balloon but rather of seeing that the balloon is far away from their body and that they catch it softly.
Anyway here's wishing everyone a colourful day :)
PS - I know the abridged version of why we play holi (which is so good cause I am not into mythology and cause lots of people around don't know why the festival is played).

Why the nick?
Well Reliance Energy sends a notice to us on the the 17th (in the evening) saying that on the 18th, there would be no electricity for 7 hours, from 10 AM to 5 PM (for some maintenance or repair) , in the area where I work.
We call up the company to find out if 7 hours is with a very high buffer, or if electricity would go out in phases etc, but the office cannot answer and say they would call us back and let us know. We got no call for at least an hour (that was the time till which
We had no option but to call it a day off and substitute the 'holiday' by working on a Saturday.
How unprofessional is this?
And to top it off, the next day we find that there was electricity the WHOLE day.
I would have sued them. Big time.

Congrats Kishor
Kishor got a baby boy yesterday.
It's kind of strange because it seems like like he got married just yesterday.
Actually it seems just like yesterday that he was teaching us. Explaining things so clearly and with so much passion.
:)
I think one of the best things that happened in my life is doing Theatrix. And there could not be a better instructor than Kishor.
Not only did I learn about acting, directing, writing, etc (I do none btw other than write on my blog) and it's not only that I met cool funny people like Kishor, Sam, Javed, Vinit but I think the realization that I could do anything, ANYTHING I wanted came to me while I was doing Theatrix (advanced course). Somethings just change your life (you have to of course be observant enough to understand what is happening).

Essel World
Had a total blast today.
The entire office (with the exception of a few) went to Essel World. I have visited EW today after a gap of about 14 years. I was just thinking on my way back that when I went last time, I was too short to sit on the adult rides :)

Special thanks to all the bag girls and bag boys. If you wouldn't take care of our bags our rides would not have been so much fun.
The day started when we had to get on a bus to get to the ferry. We walk out of the office and can't see the bus anywhere and we are trying desperately to contact someone who went ahead of us onto the bus. We get the direction but still can't see the bus. We could see a BEST bus (local transport bus) but not a bus that looked like one we hired. But guess what, our bus ride to the ferry was in the BEST bus that was standing there. It was so cool cause I didn't know (like nearly everyone else on the bus) that you can hire a BEST bus to take you around. It was pretty cool. And for me a big experience. Why I can't really put my finger on but maybe some day. I think it's mostly got to do with how I like BEST buses and hate the closed 'rent for a while' volvo type buses.

The entire office (with the exception of a few) went to Essel World. I have visited EW today after a gap of about 14 years. I was just thinking on my way back that when I went last time, I was too short to sit on the adult rides :)

Might just be a busy year...
It's 1st week March and I already attended 1 wedding of a cousin (which has ruined me - listen to too much music now while either tapping my foot or moving my head) which was in Mathura. So there was some traveling involved. Lots of family was around and we hung out with everyone a lot. Saw so many of my cousins after so long. One cousin I saw for the first time. He is 15 already and I bet he is going to want to come down to India again if he can.
Then attended a college friends wedding last weekend. Technically the first wedding I have attended of a friend of mine. It was fun. Tried desperately to do the garba (I am hoping it was my first and last time).
There is another 2 weddings lined up this year. Not sure if we will attend either of them because both of them would require traveling.
My MCom part 2 is this year. So have to study for my exams too.

We Miss You Too Marian...
On popular demand :p
Marian while you might be one of the very few people who read this (since you made the request hehe), I am still going to write it as an explanation of the nick rather an writing to you.
The nick comes to be as a response to Marians nick that says she missed us. Now it's obvious she would miss us ('us' here being my sister and me), we are just so cool :D
I met Marian when she came for lunch home. Unlike my sis, I hadn't interacted with Marian before she came to Mumbai (my sister I think use to talk to her on facebook). Anyway I think I will always remember Marians first day here - mainly because sometimes small things you do, reflect on who you are as a person...what your beliefs are, how you look at the world, etc. Anyway Marian came for lunch (it was a weekend I think cause I was home at lunch time). She came into the kitchen and insisted on helping. Now we don't let guests help out (unless they are being a real pain about it hehe). But inspite of telling her to go sit and that she wasn't going to do a single thing, she wouldn't listen and even though we didn't let her work, she actually stood around in the kitchen and spoke to us (with requests of wanting to help) instead of just going and sitting around, waiting to be served. To me the way this 2 minute interaction said a lot.
I have to say that when I heard my cousin was marrying a Spanish girl, it was a little amusing and strange. Now it is not that cross-national marriages have not happened in my family but this is the second wedding of 'our generation' and it was not something that I had expected. I always knew that there would be little resistance my cousin would face because his mom and dad are pretty cool about such things. 'As long as you are happy and the girl is good' was all they said I believe. Anyway I come from the school of thought that the more you have in common the better it is. Lesser conflict, lesser reasons to be unhappy every now and then. Which just means that (let me take the liberty of saying 'I' for simplicity sake) I would only want to be married into a home that was just like mine. So when I thought of J and M, I though that so much would be different. They have different nationalities, religions, languages, traditions, etc and that it would be so difficult to adjust (who ever chose to make the adjustment). But when I met Marian, I stopped thinking/worrying about such things because no matter what, she seemed just like us. She seemed like she was a part of our family even before being in our family.
It was the same feeling toward her family too. Except a MAJOR language barrier we all seem just like the same. (Also except that all these Spanish people are so damn photogenic. All of them look so good in photos). I guess it's nice people are nice people irrespective of country, race, religion, etc.
Anyway, we had such a blast in J&M's wedding. Haha Marian thinks we are really all good liars. Well I don't blame her. We had to give her a few surprises and had to lie for the distractions. One was for the dance and the other was for her Bridal Shower. Hehe was good fun.
Marian also thinks I am on the phone all the time. Which is so funny cause I am hardly a phone person. Of course I won't deny that I do talk a lot and sometimes a lot on the phone but those are rare instances. I mean I'll admit that just yesterday (17th March) I was a total of about 1 and a half hour on my phone. And today for close to 20 mins but that's only cause I have nothing better to do.
Anyway (one reasons I hate writing long posts is cause I stray too much) Marian's cool. She seems like a person who doesn't judge other people too harshly or rather sees the best in others. Which makes it easy to actually talk to her. You wouldn't have to sit and explain to her too much cause I guess she would still just keep liking you (assuming she liked you to begin with hehe). We ate breakfast together one morning, and I was actually quite open with her about a lot of things because I didn't have to worry about what she would think, or who she would tell etc.
Haha and the coolest thing is she actually remembered what I wrote in her guest book (the secret to happiness and tries to follow it :)
And of course like everyone else she thinks I am super smart hehe. Brilliant actor that I am :)
Glad to have you in the family Marian. I don't know what you were thinking. I doubt you were thinking...who in their right mind would marry into this family??? hehe kidding. Keep Rocking.

Brilliant Song - I am glad I got hooked onto it.
Don't know why I keep thinking it's Nelly Furtado singing (It's actually Rihanna of 'hey Mr.DJ' fame). The song is called Umbrella and this version features Jay Z and also Chris Brown (Cinderella bit)
I don't think this remix version has a video. Anyway haven't watched any video any version of the song and after watching some 20 seconds of the original video, decided that it would actually take away from the song so left it.

One night at an Ashram...
Got to Mathura and stayed at an Ashram for 1 night. There were MANY firsts that happened that night. All of which I don't want to experience again.
Never felt that cold.
Never had coal smoke killing my eyes. Also killing my lungs I am sure.
Never seen my fingers turning blue before.
Never seen SO MANY mosquitoes at one time in a room.
Never seen someone become an ace mosquito killer after just learning the art (my cousin from abroad). I guess he got a lot of targets to practice on.
Never had such a laugh seeing paste on the floor - our tap drain opened up over a drain on the floor instead of going into it.
Never slept in socks before.
Never though of not changing into my pjs because it was too cold to get out of my regular clothes.
Only one before have I slept (at night) in the same clothes I was wearing the whole day.
Never wished I was more exhausted so that I could fall asleep faster.

Fun Weddings
Now I didn't go crazy or anything but danced and sang more than any other wedding I have been at. Of course it helped that we were only 40-50 of us - all family or friends. No one looking at you, judging you, commenting on what you are wearing, being all hoitie toitie etc.
Also visited the Taj.
Did the whole 'choreographed dance on stage' routine again. This too was easier cause there weren't a million people going before or after who were brilliant so it didn't matter if we were good bad or just plain average.
No internet so no worries about work.
Stayed at a really nice hotel. Freedommmmmm sort of. Woke up when we liked (unless we had a ceremony or function or outing) and slept when we wanted.
Made new 'friends', met lots of people from Spain :) hehe I now have '3 houses' in Spain. Well at least for the sake of visiting, as in when on vacation.
Even ended up shopping a little too which is not common for me. Could also find good enough souvenirs for everyone. Cute little elephants (trunks raised) from Agra.

Another city...
Mumbai seems like a whole different city this winter. Every 2 out of 3 persons is wrapped up in a shawl, muffler, sweater, jacket, etc.
It's a little strange cause I never remember Mumbaites walking around like that :)
Of course it hasn't been so cold in decades.
Anyway I do hate the cold no matter what but getting home today, I couldn't help but smile cause the experience was so different.
Also as the train pulled in, I noticed that all windows in nearly all compartments were shut - again something very unusual. Of course it was a sight for sore eye :)
I finally own a sweater. The only sweater I had before was a school uniform sweater. I guess this new one I will be using tomorrow cause I don't want to come back home like I did today - thinking that my fingers and toes are going to fall of and my nose is going to turn to ice.
I feel bad for those people who can't get home and shut all the doors and windows and wrap themselves up in blankets. Living on the streets is one of the most terrible things in the world. If I prayed, I would have prayed for those living on the streets. I finally understand how people die in cold waves (and heat waves for that matter). It's really sad...

A specie disappears every 20 minutes....
Somewhere on your planet, a specie goes extinct every 20 minutes. You do the math... that's 3 every hour, 74 every day, and nearly 27,000 every year.

Most of us didn't know. Most of us won't care. Most of those who do care, will do little or nothing.
Let's not be indifferent to those who share this world with us. You don't donate all your money. You don't have to go to the Amazon Rainforest. You don't have to adopt an Orangutan.
Small changes can make big differences.
Turn off electrical appliances when they are not in use. Don't waste paper. Don't wear pure leather/fur. Don't waste water. Don't waste food. Get into a car pool. Use public transport if it is viable.
You won't save the earth, you won't save a specie but at least you won't waste. You won't pollute. You won't add to so much that is already wrong in this world.

On days like today I wish I was vacationing. Sitting on the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade on a nice cool day, listening to the waves, feeling the breeze, watching boats crossing the little waterway, being in awe of Hong Kong on the other day.
It's so tragic when you feel the need to 'get away'.

Back to Work...
Not that I was never there or anything but it's back to doing work that 'takes its toll'.
Don't you just hate when sometimes there is nothing to do and then there is SOOOO much?
I think I'll be repetitive - I like flat lines. Hate extremes.
