They might keep saying 'Don't be evil' and might truely believe it is their motto, but money always comes first...the hard cold truth
And anyway 'Dont be evil' cannot be equated to 'Be virtuous'. So technically they dont need to care if they give into the Chinese govts demands.
China is a hugeeee market and getting your foot in(by hook or by crook) is very important. Expecting Google to take the high ground and say 'we wont enter on your terms, because your terms are not fair' is highly idealistic and idiotic in my opinion.
Similarly google doesnt care about tibet or taiwan or anywhere/anything/anyone else. Is it their job to? No. But we still expect it from them, and I guess it is because of the image they have. And I think this is why when they dont do things as people expect, they get termed as 'the next evil empire'..or whatever. Sure its not fair...but they are not fair...the world is not fair...

I agree. I've never believed in any huge corporate house actually having a 'personality' so to say, or a collective conscience. It's not possible to get affected by things unless and until they happen right under your more (read: household).
TC.
I still love all things Google :D
